  • Bed bug infestations

Open Access•Mylène Riva, David Kaiser et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2025

Findings reinforce the significant social inequalities in exposure to bed bugs and contribute to growing evidence that bed bug exposure is a risk factor for psychological symptoms. Coordinated, intersectoral actions that are attentive to social justice issues are needed to monitor and control bed bug infestations

  • Improving attribution of extreme heat deaths through interagency cooperation

Open Access•Sarah B Henderson, Félix Lamothe et al.•ARTICLE•Canadian Journal of Public Health•2022•References: 9

Attributing individual deaths to extreme heat events (EHE) in Canada and elsewhere is important for understanding the risk factors, protective interventions, and burden of mortality associated with climate change. However, there is currently no single mechanism for identifying individual deaths due to EHE and different agencies have taken different approaches, including (1) vital statistics coding based on medical certificates of death, (2) proba…

  • Changes in diet quality and food security among adults during the Covid-19–related early lockdown

Open Access•Benoît Lamarche, Aida Sefic Williams et al.•ARTICLE•2021•References: 20

Contrary to our hypotheses, diet quality has slightly improved and prevalence of food insecurity was reduced in this sample of adults from Quebec during the COVID-19-related early lockdown. These results may be generalizable only to relatively healthy populations.

  • The Potential Impacts of Urban and Transit Planning Scenarios for 2031 on Car Use and Active Transportation in a Metropolitan Area

Open Access•Patrick Morency, Céline Plante et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2020

Land use and transportation scenarios can help evaluate the potential impacts of urban compact or transit-oriented development (TOD). Future scenarios have been based on hypothetical developments or strategic planning but both have rarely been compared. We developed scenarios for an entire metropolitan area (Montreal, Canada) based on current strategic planning documents and contrasted their potential impacts on car use and active transportation …

  • Regional assessment of exposure to traffic-related air pollution

Open Access•Maryam Shekarrizfard, Ahmadreza Faghih-Imani et al.•ARTICLE•Sustainable Cities and Society•2017

  • Sleep Disturbance from Road Traffic, Railways, Airplanes and from Total Environmental Noise Levels in Montreal

Open Access•Stéphane Perron, Céline Plante et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2016

The objective of our study was to measure the impact of transportation-related noise and total environmental noise on sleep disturbance for the residents of Montreal, Canada. A telephone-based survey on noise-related sleep disturbance among 4336 persons aged 18 years and over was conducted. LNight for each study participant was estimated using a land use regression (LUR) model. Distance of the respondent's residence to the nearest transportation …

  • Annoyance from Road Traffic, Trains, Airplanes and from Total Environmental Noise Levels

Open Access•Martina S Ragettli, Martina Ragettli et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2015

There is a lack of studies assessing the exposure-response relationship between transportation noise and annoyance in North America. Our aims were to investigate the prevalence of noise annoyance induced by road traffic, trains and airplanes in relation to distance to transportation noise sources, and to total environmental noise levels in Montreal, Canada; annoyance was assessed as noise-induced disturbance. A telephone-based survey among 4336 p…

  • Major urban road characteristics and injured pedestrians

Open Access•Patrick Morency, Judith Archambault et al.•ARTICLE•Canadian Journal of Public Health•2015•Cited by: 1•References: 18

  • Authors’ Response to Boivin and Savard Commentary

Open Access•Louis-François Tétreault, Céline Plante et al.•ARTICLE•Canadian Journal of Public Health•2013•References: 2

  • Neighborhood Social Inequalities in Road Traffic Injuries

Patrick Morency, Lise Gauvin et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Public Health•2012•Cited by: 10•References: 58

Objectives. We examined the extent to which differential traffic volume and road geometry can explain social inequalities in pedestrian, cyclist, and motor vehicle occupant injuries across wealthy and poor urban areas. Methods. We performed a multilevel observational study of all road users injured over 5 years (n = 19 568) at intersections (n = 17 498) in a large urban area (Island of Montreal, Canada). We considered intersection-level (traffic …

  • Risk Assessment of Aircraft Noise on Sleep in Montreal

Open Access•Louis-François Tétreault, Céline Plante et al.•ARTICLE•Canadian Journal of Public Health•2012•References: 6

  • Risk of Childhood Asthma Prevalence Attributable to Residential Proximity to Major Roads in Montreal, Canada

Open Access•Karine Price, Céline Plante et al.•ARTICLE•Canadian Journal of Public Health•2012•Cited by: 2•References: 27

  • Variation of daily warm season mortality as a function of micro-urban heat islands

    Open Access•Audrey Smargiassi, Milton S Goldberg et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Epidemiology and…•2009•Cited by: 8•References: 24

BACKGROUND: Little attention has been paid to how heat-related health effects vary with the micro-urban variation of outdoor temperatures. This study explored whether people located in micro-urban heat islands are at higher risk of mortality during hot summer days. METHODS: Data used included (1) daily mortality for Montreal (Canada) for June-August 1990-2003, (2) daily mean ambient outdoor temperatures at the local international airport and (3) …
