  • Worries, beliefs and factors influencing perinatal Covid-19 vaccination

Open Access•Serine Ramlawi, Katherine A Muldoon et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2022

In this Canadian perinatal population, approximately 42% reported COVID-19 vaccination. Among unvaccinated individuals, willingness to receive vaccination was high (73%). Factors enhancing vaccine willingness included discussions with healthcare providers and believing the vaccine was effective. Concerns regarding vaccine safety, particularly with respect to fetal/child development, were the greatest barriers to vaccine uptake

  • Giving Birth in the Early Phases of the Covid-19 Pandemic

Open Access•Carlie Boisvert, Robert Talarico et al.•ARTICLE•Maternal and Child Health Journal•2022

  • A 15-Year Population-Based Investigation of Sexual Assault Cases Across the Province of Ontario, Canada, 2002–2016

Katherine A Muldoon, Katherine Muldoon et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Public Health•2019•References: 25

Objectives. To estimate the population-level frequencies and standardized rates of sexual assault cases in the province of Ontario, Canada. Methods. We conducted a 15-year retrospective analysis (2002–2016) of sexual assault cases by linking 5 provincial administrative health databases. We defined sexual assault by an algorithm of 23 International Classification of Diseases, 10th Revision, and physician billing codes. We calculated age- and sex-s…

  • Sexual relationship power and intimate partner violence among sex workers with non-commercial intimate partners in a Canadian setting

    Katherine A Muldoon, K Deering et al.•ARTICLE•AIDS Care•2015

There is little information on the private lives of women engaged in sex work, particularly how power dynamics within intimate relationships may affect intimate partner violence (IPV). Using baseline data of sex workers enrolled in a longitudinal cohort, "An Evaluation of Sex Workers' Health Access" (AESHA), the present study examined the association between sexual relationship power and IPV among sex workers in non-commercial partnerships in Van…

  • Policing the epidemic

Open Access•Katherine A Muldoon, Monica Akello et al.•ARTICLE•Global Public Health•2015

Sex workers in sub-Saharan Africa experience a high burden of HIV with a paucity of data on violence and links to HIV risk among sex workers, and even less within conflict-affected environments. Data are from a cross-sectional survey of female sex workers in Gulu, northern Uganda (n = 400). Logistic regression was used to determine the specific association between policing and recent physical/sexual violence from clients. A total of 196 (49.0%) s…

  • Family structure and sexual and reproductive health outcomes among adolescents in rural Sierra Leone

Open Access•Lindsay Stark, Timothy M Tan et al.•ARTICLE•Global Public Health•2015

Orphanhood is common in sub-Saharan Africa, and is a critical issue shaping global assistance for children. Care arrangements for children are often fluid, and many 'orphaned' children have a surviving biological parent. This study examines the protective effects of family-level factors on early sex and pregnancy in rural Sierra Leone. A survey of 530 adolescents in 2 districts in Sierra Leone was analysed to evaluate associations between living …

  • After abduction

Open Access•Katherine A Muldoon, Godfrey Muzaaya et al.•ARTICLE•Conflict and Health•2014

Over 40% of female abductees in this sample had accessed a reintegration program, however significant differences in mental health were not observed between those who accessed a reintegration program and those who self-reintegrated. The successful reintegration of combatants and abductees into their recipient community is a complex process and these results support the need for gender-specific services and ongoing evaluation of reintegration prog…

  • Years of life lost to incarceration

    Open Access•Akwasi Owusu‐bempah, Akwasi Owusu-Bempah et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2014

The results indicate substantial differences in life years lost to incarceration for Aboriginal versus non-Aboriginal Canadians. In light of on-going prison expansion in Canada, future research and policy attention should be paid to the public health consequences of incarceration, particularly among Aboriginal Canadians

  • Measuring Food and Nutrition Security

Open Access•Sarah J Fielden, Aranka Anema et al.•ARTICLE•AIDS and Behavior•2013

  • Supporting Southern-led Research

Open Access•Katherine A Muldoon, Josephine Birungi et al.•ARTICLE•Canadian Journal of Public Health•2012•References: 23

  • Gendered HIV risk patterns among polygynous sero-discordant couples in Uganda

Katherine A Muldoon, Kate Shannon et al.•ARTICLE•Culture Health & Sexuality•2011

Stable serodiscordant relationships and sexual concurrency are pathways that contribute to the HIV epidemic in sub-Saharan Africa. However whether polygyny imparts the same risks as informal concurrent relationships remains an open research question. Using data collected at enrollment from a cohort study of sero-discordant couples, this analysis investigates how polygynous relationships differ from those involving only a single female spouse and …

  • Health system determinants of infant, child and maternal mortality

    Open Access•Katherine A Muldoon, Lindsay P Galway et al.•ARTICLE•Globalization and Health•2011

OBJECTIVE: Few studies have examined the link between health system strength and important public health outcomes across nations. We examined the association between health system indicators and mortality rates. METHODS: We used mixed effects linear regression models to investigate the strength of association between outcome and explanatory variables, while accounting for geographic clustering of countries. We modelled infant mortality rate (IMR)…
