Social Prescribing for Children and Youth
Social prescribing is gaining traction globally, with over 30 countries involved in the social prescribing movement. This holistic approach to health and well‐being is relevant to all ages, but it is especially important for children and youth. While this population has largely been neglected in social prescribing efforts, several evaluations of social prescribing programs specifically targeting this population have emerged in recent years, which…
It’s a big, round circle of knowledge to me. I don’t know how else to explain it”
Indigenous identity is supported by connections to land, community, and culture and is a key aspect of health. Cultural identity is threatened by settler colonialism, and urban Indigenous Peoples experience unique challenges including the myth that Indigeneity is incompatible with urban areas, even though most Indigenous Peoples in Canada live in cities, and many express their identities through urban Indigenous food sovereignty (IFS) practices. …
Family and community resilience
In the context of additional stresses related to the COVID-19 pandemic, resilient behaviours and strategies for families were identified. The creation or development of networks of intra- and inter-community bonds; the promotion of accessible parenting, housing, and other social services; and the conservation and expansion of natural environments may support resilience and health
Connecting families
The impacts of financial strain on families with young children are far reaching. Further research into the impacts of self-sacrifice on parents experiencing financial strain are needed to better understand this issue, and to inform social programming and resources that could help alleviate the deleterious impacts of poverty on parent mental, social, and physical health

Impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic on life and learning experiences of indigenous and non-Indigenous university and college students in Ontario, Canada
Our study highlights important impacts of the pandemic on students of higher education that may have significant individual and societal implications going forward. Both postsecondary institutions and society at large need to attend to these impacts, in order to preserve the wellbeing of graduates, the Canadian labor market, and to ensure that the pandemic does not further exacerbate existing inequalities in post-secondary education in Canada
Defining Social Prescribing
According to the World Health Organization, social prescribing is a holistic approach to health and wellbeing that promotes integrated care. There is growing interest in social prescribing around the world, with over 20 countries involved in the social prescribing movement. However, an agreed definition of social prescribing has yet to emerge. This is problematic for social prescribing research, policy, and practice. Since there are two types of …
