Individual- and Regional-level determinants of Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine refusal
Studies on HPV vaccine determinants should consider regional-level factors. Efforts to increase HPV vaccine acceptance should include vulnerable populations (such as girls of low income) and girls with limited contact with the healthcare system
Evidence of effective delivery of the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine through a publicly funded, school-based program
Our study demonstrates that delivery of the HPV vaccine through a free, school-based program is an effective method of ensuring high completion and on-time dosing, but may not be sufficient to guarantee high coverage
The Regression Discontinuity Design
Background The human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine and corresponding vaccination programs have been in Canada for over six years, yet there is no information on their effectiveness in reducing anogenital warts. Objectives To assess the effect of the HPV vaccine (vaccine impact) and Ontario's Grade 8 HPV vaccination program (program impact) on anogenital warts using the Regression Discontinuity Design (RDD; a quasi-experimental, instrumental variab…
An Assessment of Human Papillomavirus (Hpv) Vaccine Series Completion and on-Time Dosing in Ontario's Grade 8 HPV Vaccination Program
Introduction Proper administration of the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine (three doses at 0, 2, and 6 months) will likely influence the vaccine's effectiveness and the impact of provincial vaccination programs on adolescent health. Objectives To assess HPV vaccine series completion and on-time dosing in Canada's largest publicly funded, school-based vaccination program. Methods Using Ontario's administrative health and immunization databases, …
Factors associated with initiation and completion of the quadrivalent human papillomavirus vaccine series in an ontario cohort of grade 8 girls
The current low level of HPV vaccine acceptance in Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox, and Addington will likely have important implications in terms of the health benefits and cost-effectiveness of its publicly funded program. We identified important factors associated with series initiation and completion that should be considered in efforts to improve HPV vaccine use in this population
A Comparison of Methods for Forecasting Emergency Department Visits for Respiratory Illness Using Telehealth Ontario Calls
Does the Addition of Functional Status Indicators to Case-Mix Adjustment Indices Improve Prediction of Hospitalization, Institutionalization, and Death in the Elderly
BACKGROUND: Case-mix adjustment is widely used in health services research to ensure that groups being compared are equivalent on variables predicting outcome. There has been considerable development and testing of comorbidity indices derived from diagnostic codes recorded in administrative databases, but increasingly, the benefit of clinical information and patient reported ratings of health and functional status is being recognized. One type of…
