Death Confrontation, Spiritual-Existential Experience and Caring Attitudes in Palliative Care Nurses
The present qualitative study aims to (a) better understand how palliative care nurses handle death proximity; (b) describe their subjective spiritual-existential experience; and (c) explore the potential links between death confrontation and spiritual-existential experience in nurses. Eleven palliative care nurses participated in a semi-structured interview. Data were analysed using interpretative phenomenological analysis. The first level analy…

Ten palliative care nurses were interviewed before and after participating in a group intervention. Data were analyzed using interpretative phenomenological analysis (Smith 20…
Sympathoimmune Anomalies Underlying the Response to Stressful Challenge in Human Immunodeficiency Virus Spectrum Disease
Objective: This study examined immune, endocrine, and cardiovascular reactivity during stressful behavioral challenge in human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) seropositive (HIV+) and seronegative (HIV−) men and women and assessed whether immunocellular reactivity was differentially associated with concomitant alterations in sympathetic response. Methods: The 133 HIV+ [84 asymptomatic, 49 symptomatic] and 92 HIV− subjects completed a speech stress re…

Means, test-retest correlations, and internal consistency coefficients (alpha) replicated the English initial validation. These results support the reliability of th…
Salivary IGA is a Weak Stress Marker
Several studies support the hypothesis that psychological stress may negatively affect immunocompetence. The present study sought to determine whether a relationship can be established between a measure of psychological state of stress and level of immunoglobulin of the A class (IgA) in saliva. To this end, 44 dentistry students were tested on four occasions; two occasions were stress inductive (examination situation), and two occasions were free…
