  • Group therapy for men with histories of military sexual trauma

Jonathan Yahalom, Caitlin L McLean et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Trauma Theory…•2026

These findings suggest that a trauma-focused, discussion-centered group therapy approach may be relevant for men with histories of MST, a population with unique clinical distress and treatment underutilization. This alternative therapeutic approach merits additional study as an alternative approach for MST-related care. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2026 APA, all rights reserved)

  • Evaluating the mobile Mantram Repetition Program for veterans with PTSD

    Open Access•Caitlin L McLean, Ashley L Faytol et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Trauma Theory…•2024

Findings suggest that mMRP can be delivered in a brief format, with veterans learning and using mantram repetition. Developing additional ways of individualizing the mMRP and further testing are warranted. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2025 APA, all rights reserved)

  • Feasibility and Acceptability of a School-Based Emotion Regulation Prevention Intervention (Ready-Nepal) for Secondary School Students in Post-Earthquake Nepal

Open Access•Megan Ramaiya, Caitlin L McLean et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2022

Further research on longitudinal outcome measurement, use of alternatives to retrospective self-report data, and rigorous development of culturally grounded models of emotion regulation is necessary to explore the utility of school-based emotion regulation interventions in Nepal and other LMICs

  • Recommendations to disclose sexual assault are motivated by retribution among women who endorse honor values

    Open Access•Marisa K Crowder, Caitlin L McLean et al.•ARTICLE•Aggressive Behavior•2022•Cited by: 1•References: 54

Rape arrests are higher in US states wherein residents more typically endorse honor values. Because honor values reflect an association between reputation and self‐worth, which is based on one's ability to uphold traditional gender norms, one should expect that women who endorse honor values are motivated to conceal a sexual assault. However, honor values also engender the expectation that women defend their reputations if threatened. Thus, women…

  • It Happened Matters More Than What Happened

    Open Access•Allison K Ruork, Caitlin L McLean et al.•ARTICLE•Violence Against Women•2021•References: 3

Intimate partner violence (IPV) has varied consequences including post-traumatic stress (PTS). One proposed risk factor for PTS is escalating types of violence; however, data are mixed. Because emotion dysregulation acts as a causal mechanism across numerous problems co-occurring in survivors of IPV, this study examined its association with PTS severity versus abuse type. Regression using data from women ( n = 89) seeking treatment for IPV-relate…

  • To honor and obey

    Open Access•Caitlin L McLean, Marisa K Crowder et al.•ARTICLE•Aggressive Behavior•2018•Cited by: 2•References: 25

The overwhelming majority of rapes goes unreported. To better understand the sociocultural mechanisms behind why underreporting may occur, three studies (total n = 1,481) examine how women's endorsement of honor values influence the perceptions of rape. Using vignettes that varied the closeness of the perpetrator of a sexual assault (i.e., stranger, acquaintance, or husband), we found that women who endorse honor values of womanhood were less lik…

  • Evaluation of a web-based acceptance and commitment therapy program for women with trauma-related problems

Open Access•Devika Fiorillo, Caitlin Mclean et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Contextual Behavioral…•2016

  • Peer Support and Outcome for Veterans with Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) in a Residential Rehabilitation Program

Open Access•Shaili Jain, Caitlin Mclean et al.•ARTICLE•Community Mental Health Journal•2016•Cited by: 5•References: 11

  • Sexually Transmitted Infections and Sexual Dysfunctions Among Newly Returned Veterans With and Without Military Sexual Trauma

Jessica A Turchik, Joanne Pavao et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of Sexual…•2012

This cross-sectional study examined the odds of being diagnosed with a sexually transmitted infection (STI) or a sexual dysfunction disorder (SDD) among Operation Enduring Freedom/Operation Iraqi Freedom (OEF/OIF) American veterans receiving care in the Veterans' Health Administration (VHA) in relation to whether or not they have experienced military sexual trauma (MST). Among those veterans who experienced MST, the influence of a diagnosis of po…
