Sensation seeking and cyberbullying among Chinese adolescents
Exploring Weibo users’ attitudes toward lesbians and gays in Mainland China
The effect of emotion background on pathological internet users’ comments on online news
The increased use of Internet communication emphasizes the need to explore the characteristics of online comments, which help better understand their impact on individuals’ internal emotional states and how the emotional valence of online news impacts online commentaries among Pathological Internet Users (PIUs). Eighteen PIUs and 14 controls commented on online news of two types (positive and negative valence) under two separate elicited emotiona…
Mediating effects of rumination and bedtime procrastination on the relationship between Internet addiction and poor sleep quality
Changes in physiological reactivity in response to the trauma memory during prolonged exposure and virtual reality exposure therapy for posttraumatic stress disorder
This was the first study comparing effects of VRE and PE on psychophysiological variables. Headaches
Headache is a very common syndrome, affecting most individuals over their lifetime. This chapter begins with a review of headache classification, diagnosis, and etiology, focusing in particular on migraine (including those forms related to menses) and tension-type headaches, as well as cluster headaches and headaches complicated by overuse of medication. The next section focuses on methods for quantifying various parameters of head pain, as well …
Three studies of the psychologic changes in chronic headache patients associated with biofeedback and relaxation therapies
Three separate, but similar, studies are described in which the psychologic effects (depression, anxiety, and overall degree of psychosomatic distress) of nonpharmacologic treatment (relaxation and/or biofeedback training) for three kinds of chronic headache (tension, migraine, and mixed migraine and tension) were evaluated. Results showed consistently (across all three studies) significant reductions in depression and trait-anxiety associated wi…
Psychological Functioning in Headache Sufferers
The present study examined the psychological test responses of 99 headache sufferers and 30 matched nonheadache controls. Headache subjects were of four types: migraine (n = 26), muscle contraction (n = 39), combined migraine-muscle contract ion (n = 22), and cluster (n = 12). Measures consisted of the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory, a modified hostility scale derived from the MMPI, Back Depression Inventory, State-Trait Anxiety Inve…
Temporal Stability and Internal Reliability of Measures of Children's Social Skill
According to recent reviews of the literature, interest in assessment of social skills of children has been growing (Michelson & Wood, 1980; Michelson, Foster, & Ritchey, in press). However, requisite psychometric properties of commonly used measures have rarely been reported. To remedy this relative vacuum 90 elementary school children (M = 13 yr.) were given three measures and retested 2 wk. later. The Children's Assertive Behavior Scale (Miche…
