Implementation of a school-based diversion initiative to advance restorative discipline

Bidirectional effects of parental and adolescent symptom change in trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy
These findings highlight the impact that parents and children have on each other's response to children's trauma-focused psychotherapy. Notably, parents' depressive symptoms appeared to slow their children's progress in treatment, suggesting that attending to parents' symptoms and providing them with supportive services may be an important adjunct to children's interventions. Comparing trauma-focused cognitive-behavioral therapy to commonly used treatments in usual care for children with posttraumatic stress disorder
These findings reinforce the evidence for providing TF-CBT to children with PTSD in outpatient settings and suggest that supporting clinicians in implementing TF-CBT can result in greater improvements than usual care treatments. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2024 APA, all rights reserved)
Emergency Department Use by Children and Youth with Mental Health Conditions
Equity-Focused, Trauma-Informed Policy Can Mitigate Covid-19’s Risks to Children’s Behavioral Health
Both vulnerabilities to COVID-19 and childhood trauma have deep roots in health inequities. Children of color especially risk severe COVID-19 illness, with long-term effects that amplify existing health disparities, including trauma exposure. Similarly, children of color report more adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) than non-Hispanic White children. ACEs and other potentially traumatic events are associated with lifelong physical and psycholog…
Outcomes, evidence-based treatments, and disparities in a statewide outpatient children’s behavioral health system
Caregiver satisfaction with their child’s trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy
Background: Despite the value trauma-focused cognitive-behavioral therapy (TF-CBT) places on caregivers being included in treatment, limited qualitative research has examined their experience with treatment. Thus, this research aimed to assess (a) overall caregiver satisfaction; (b) aspects of TF-CBT caregivers found most and least useful or thought could be improved; and (c) if satisfaction differed between caregivers of completers and noncomple…
Systems Measures of a Trauma‐Informed Approach
Interest in trauma‐informed approaches has grown substantially. These approaches are characterized by integrating understanding of trauma throughout a program, organization, or system to enhance the quality, effectiveness, and delivery of services provided to individuals and groups. However, variation in definitions of trauma‐informed approaches, coupled with underdeveloped research on measurement, poses challenges for evaluating the effectivenes…
Enhancing Capacity for Trauma‐informed Care in Child Welfare
Highlights Evaluated changes in child welfare system capacity for trauma‐informed care over 5‐year initiative Initial gains in perceived capacity for trauma‐informed care were sustained during implementation. Workforce development, wellness supports, and accessible treatments contributed to improvements
Barriers and consultation needs regarding implementation of evidence-based treatment in community agencies
Trauma Screening in Child Welfare
A Critical Look At Trauma-Informed Care Among Agencies and Systems Serving Maltreated Youth and Their Families
The past two decades have witnessed an increase in programs targeting children and youth impacted by traumatic events, with a heightened focus on ensuring that all such programs and relevant service systems are trauma informed. While such efforts are laudable, trauma-informed care (TIC) is defined in a number of ways, limiting evaluation of these initiatives, specifically as they relate to the potential for improved outcomes or reduced costs ofte…
Building Capacity for Trauma-Informed Care in the Child Welfare System
Exposure to childhood trauma is a major public health concern and is especially prevalent among children in the child welfare system (CWS). State and tribal CWSs are increasingly focusing efforts on identifying and serving children exposed to trauma through the creation of trauma-informed systems. This evaluation of a statewide initiative in Connecticut describes the strategies used to create a trauma-informed CWS, including workforce development…
Development and validation of a brief trauma screening measure for children
The CTS is a promising measure for rapidly and reliably screening children for trauma exposure and PTSD symptoms. Future research is needed to confirm validation and to examine feasibility and utility of its use across various child-serving systems. (PsycINFO Database Record
