  • Discrepancies in perceptions of PTSD symptoms among veteran couples

    Open Access•Kathleen M Grubbs, Kayla Knopp et al.•ARTICLE•Family Process•2025

Veteran and intimate partner perceptions of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) may differ, and little is known about how agreement or disagreement on symptom severity is related to relationship satisfaction. Veterans and their partners ( N = 199 couples) completed a baseline assessment for a clinical trial evaluating two couple‐based PTSD interventions. Veterans completed the PTSD Checklist for DSM‐5 (PCL‐5). Partners completed the collateral P…

  • The National Center for PTSD Model for Digital Mental Health

Jason E Owen, Eric Kuhn et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Trauma Theory…•2025

The NCPTSD Model for Digital Mental Health provides an evidence-based and pragmatic approach for how digital mental health technologies can be optimized to improve the lives of veterans and members of the public who are living with the psychological consequences of trauma. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2025 APA, all rights reserved)

  • Serving Veterans in their Communities

    Open Access•Shannon E Mccaslin, Margaret‐Anne Mackintosh et al.•ARTICLE•Community Mental Health Journal•2021•References: 4

  • Temporary PTSD symptom increases among individuals receiving CPT in a hybrid effectiveness-implementation trial

    Sadie E Larsen, Margaret‐Anne Mackintosh et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Trauma Theory…•2020

The rates of symptom increases, which were higher than in previous studies, may be attributed to a routine care sample or to the differences in session timing and measurement. These results add to a nascent literature documenting that symptom increases may be a normal, transient part of treatment that do not impact a patient's ability to have symptom improvement during a course of CPT. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2022 APA, all rights reserved)

  • Perceived helpfulness and engagement in mental health treatment

Amy E Ellis, Vanessa Simiola et al.•ARTICLE•Psychology of Men & Masculinity•2020•Cited by: 2

At least 1 in 4 men are sexually abused or assaulted across their lifetime. Although many have significant negative mental health (MH) difficulties, relatively few seek formal MH treatment. This study sought to understand current engagement in and perceived helpfulness of MH treatment in male survivors. Eighty-eight men completed an online survey via a nonprofit organization’s website dedicated to providing support to male survivors. Men who repo…

  • PTSD treatment response and quality of life in women with childhood trauma histories

    Open Access•Jeane Bosch, Margaret‐Anne Mackintosh et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Trauma Theory…•2019

Women who experienced a broader range of childhood trauma may experience diminished PTSD symptom reduction following CPT in comparison with women with less exposure. On average, all women, regardless of trauma history, reported small improvements in QOL. Clinical considerations are discussed. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2020 APA, all rights reserved)

  • Predicting treatment dropout among veterans receiving prolonged exposure therapy

Open Access•Afsoon Eftekhari, Jill J Crowley et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Trauma Theory…•2019

Treatment dropout was predicted by age but not by initial symptom severity or symptom course early in treatment. Symptom exacerbation was rare and did not increase risk of dropout. Nonetheless, clinicians often attributed dropout to patients not tolerating PE. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2020 APA, all rights reserved)

  • Emotion regulation mediates the relationship between Aces and physical and mental health

Open Access•Michel Cloître, Christina T Khan et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Trauma Theory…•2018

Interventions that focus on improving emotion regulation skills might provide an efficient "transdiagnostic" treatment strategy for both psychological and physical health problems. The study successfully tested a mediational model that identified a common pathway influencing both mental and physical health symptoms. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2018 APA, all rights reserved)

  • Examining Changes in Sexual Functioning after Cognitive Processing Therapy in a Sample of Women Trauma Survivors

    Open Access•Stephanie Y Wells, Lisa H Glassman et al.•ARTICLE•Women s Health Issues•2018

  • Predictors of differential PTSD treatment outcomes between veteran and civilian women after cognitive processing therapy

    Open Access•Robyn L Gobin, Margaret‐Anne Mackintosh et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Trauma Theory…•2017

Future research should be focused on further understanding and addressing these 2 treatment outcome predictors in an effort to reduce the gap in PTSD treatment outcomes between veterans and civilians. (PsycINFO Database Record

  • Improving assessment of race, ethnicity, and culture to further veteran PTSD research

Jane Onoye, Jane M Onoye et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Trauma Theory…•2016

A proposal is made for a minimal uniform assessment standard of race and ethnicity. Additional recommendations incorporate principles proposed by the Institute of Medicine that allow for more granular assessment of race and ethnicity to better capture individual identity and cultural factors as they relate to the assessment, experience and management of PTSD. (PsycINFO Database Record
