Testing the structure of the Career Decision-Making Difficulties Questionnaire across country, gender, age, and decision status
Challenges and difficulties in career decision making
Emotional and Personality-Related Career Decision-Making Difficulties
This study tests the temporal stability and the concurrent and predictive validity of the Emotional and Personality-related Career decision-making Difficulties (EPCD) model and questionnaire. Five hundred forty-three participants filled out the EPCD twice, 3 years apart. The Anxiety cluster was the most stable of the three, followed by the Self-Concept and Identity cluster, and then the Pessimistic Views cluster, which showed a significant decrea…
The Effect of Gender Stereotypes on Explicit and Implicit Career Preferences
The present study compared gender differences in directly reported and indirectly derived career preferences and tested the hypothesis that individuals' implicit preferences would show less gender-biased occupational choices than their directly elicited ones. Two hundred sixty-six visitors to a career-related Internet site were asked to (a) list 5 to 10 suitable occupations (the directly reported list) and (b) report their preferences in terms of…
Challenges of Internet-Based Assessment
Features of users' responses to the Hebrew (N - 10,000) and English (N = 510) Internet versions of the Career Decision-Making Difficulties Questionnaire (I Gati. M. Krausz. & S, II. Osipow. 1996) were examined The results indicated that in the proper setting. Internet versions produce reliable and valid scores
A taxonomy of difficulties in career decision making.
A general theoretical taxonomy of career decision-making difficulties, based on decision theory, has been developed. To examine the proposed taxonomy empirically, a questionnaire was constructed in which the various possible difficulties in the theoretical model were represented by respective statements. The questionnaire was administered to a sample of 259 young Israeli adults who were at the beginning of their career decision-making process and…
The structure of vocational interests
Although the significance of the structure of occupational interests is generally acknowledged, there is less agreement regarding the nature of the structure. This article first discusses the circular-hexagonal model for this structure and the problem faced by it and then describes the hierarchical model for the structure of interests, which is proposed as an alternative to the circular-hexagonal model. Studies testing the assumptions of the hier…

Guidelines for Item Selection in Inventories Yielding Score Profiles
In many personality and interest inventories a score profile, rather than a single score, is attributed to each subject. Six applicable criteria are suggested for use in examining the adequacy of items in such inventories. Two of these criteria relate to the response distribution on each item, two to the internal consistency of the items and two to the discriminative value of the items
Properties of the Item Efficiency Index for Minimum Redundancy Item Analysis
This paper examines the properties of the Item Efficiency Index proposed by Neill and Jackson (1976) for minimum redundancy item analysis. Regarding the components of the index it is suggested that the item score be deducted from the scale scores in which it is included for the calculations of the item-scale correlations and that in general the point-biserial correlations be used instead of the biserial ones. The addition of a parameter is propos…
