  • Flax, Bupleurum and Other Plants at Early Bronze Age Yenibademli Höyük (Gökçeada), NW Turkey

Emel Oybak Dönmez, Halime Hüryılmaz et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Archaeology•2022•References: 15

In this study, a large number of carbonised plant remains recovered from the Early Bronze Age levels of the Yenibademli Höyük site, which is situated on Gökçeada (Imbros), north-western Turkey (Anatolia), in the north-east Aegean Sea, are examined to shed light on the plant-based agricultural economy. The archaeobotanical assemblage is predominantly composed of domesticated cereals and legumes and includes clover, grapevine, flax, Bupleurum and w…

  • Lowstand lake conditions in NW Anatolia during the Little Ice Age

    Open Access•Faruk Ocakoğlu, Aydın Akbulut et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2022•References: 7

Despite global and local evidence of significant precipitation changes since the Little Ice Age (LIA), their impact upon lake hydrology and surrounding vegetation has yet to be investigated in NW Anatolia. Moreover, the LIA, as a trigger to the social/political recession of the Ottoman Empire in the 17th century is expected to have these impacts. To address this important gap, we studied three cores from Lake Sünnet, a landslide-dammed high altit…

  • A 2800-year multi-proxy sedimentary record of climate change from Lake Çubuk (Göynük, Bolu, NW Anatolia)

    Open Access•Faruk Ocakoğlu, Emel Oybak Dönmez et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2015•Cited by: 1•References: 12

The sediment of Lake Çubuk in NW Anatolia, which is situated very close to the climate boundary between the dry Central Anatolia and the wet Marmara region, is regarded as a suitable climate archive to test inward and outward movements of this boundary in accordance with past climate variations. Herein, we study the stratigraphic record of the last 2800 years of this landslide-dammed lake at 1030 m elevation, using multi-proxy tools (sedimentolog…

  • Ancient nigella seeds from Boyalı Höyük in north-central Turkey

    Open Access•Bekir Salih, T Sipahi et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Ethnopharmacology•2009

  • Urartian Plant Cultivation at Yoncatepe (Van), Eastern Turkey

    Open Access•Emel Oybak Dönmez, Oktay Belli•ARTICLE•Economic Botany•2007•References: 2

  • Early Bronze Age Crop Plants from Yenibademli Höyük (Gökçeada), Western Turkey

    Emel Oybak Dönmez•ARTICLE•Environmental Archaeology•2005

Carbonised plant remains discovered in the Early Bronze Age (II) levels of Yenibademli Höyük on Gökçeada, one of offshore islands of west Anatolia, are presented. Archaeobotanical analysis of the plant remains dating from ca. 2900–2600 BC yielded a broad spectrum of crop plants comprising cereals and legumes, the latter of which appears to be of greater importance in both range and abundance. Deliberate crop mixtures (maslins) consisting of bitte…

  • Urartian crop plant remains from Patnos (Aǧri), eastern Turkey

    Open Access•Emel Oybak Dönmez•ARTICLE•Anatolian Studies•2003

The analysis of eight samples of carbonised plant material from the Patnos area (Aǧri), an important site of the Urartian period in eastern Turkey is presented. Bread/macaroni wheat ( Triticum aestivum L./T. durum Desf.) and domesticated emmer wheat ( Triticum dicoccum Schübl.) are the main crop plants. Hulled barley ( Hordeum L.) is less abundantly represented. Pulse seeds, bitter vetch ( Vicia ervilia (L.) Willd.), lentil ( Lens culinaris Medik…
