Estructura y composición florística de la selva mediana subperennifolia en Bethania, Campeche, México
We characterized the vegetation structure and the floristic composition of the semi evergreen tropical forest in the locality of Bethania, Campeche, México. We marked ten 10 m x 10 m (1000 m2) plots, where all individuals with a diameter at breast height (DBH) of ≥ 2 cm were measured. The structural analysis of the vegetation is based on the species importance values (IV). We found 490 woody individuals belonging to 34 species, grouped into 33 ge…
Composición y estructura arbórea de petenes en la Reserva de la Biosfera de Los Petenes, Campeche, México
We analyzed the composition and vegetation structure of 11 petenes of the Reserva de la Biosfera de Los Petenes (RBLP), Campeche. In each peten we selected five 20 m x 20 m plots (400 m 2 , total 2000 m 2 ) where we recorded and measured all woody individuals with a diameter at breast height (DBH) 5cm. The structure of each peten was described based on relative values of density, frequency and dominance (RIVI), and the distribution of diameter cl…
Highly nested diets in intrapopulation monkey–resource food webs
Recently several studies have focused on the structure of ecological networks to provide insights into ecological and coevolutionary dynamics of interacting species. However, rarely have the tools of ecological networks been used to understand how feeding relationships vary among individuals of the same population. Here we use 7 years of data and network analyzed to examine the intrapopulation diet variation in a group of howler monkeys (Alouatta…
Noninvasive collection of fresh hairs from free‐ranging howler monkeys for DNA extraction
The use of noninvasive collected samples as source of DNA in studies of wild primate populations has increased in recent years. Fresh‐plucked hairs represent an important source of DNA, with relatively high quality and concentration. In this study, we describe a low‐cost noninvasive technique for collecting fresh‐plucked hairs used to obtain DNA samples from free‐ranging black howler monkey populations ( Alouatta pigra ). We designed and manufact…
