  • Nature, Fate, and Causality in the Peripatetic Tradition: The Case of Alexander of Aphrodisias

    Open Access•Alberto Harambour, Alberto Ro•ARTICLE•Religions•2026•References: 14

The aim of this work is to present the Peripatetic doctrine of fate (heimarmene) according to Alexander of Aphrodisias in his treatise Peri heimarmenes or De fato. The central thesis of this Alexandrian work is that everything that occurs kata ten physin (in accordance with nature) occurs kath’ heimarmenen (in accordance with fate). In order to reconstruct the doctrine underlying this claim, I alternate between an exposition of the Aristotelian c…

    Open Access•Alberto Harambour•ARTICLE•Historia Crítica•2025

Objective/context: Thanks to a court case dating back to 1914, we know that a young German woman, born in the colony of South West Africa, was arrested in southern Patagonia. Her husband, an American who had arrived in the working-class town of Puerto Natales after a journey that began in California, accused her of abandoning the family home and claimed that his wife was involved in sex trafficking networks. Learning about this trial prompted me …

  • Contested mobilities in the maritory: Implications of boundary formation in a nomadic space

Open Access•José Barrena, Alberto Harambour et al.•ARTICLE•Environment and Planning C…•2021•Cited by: 1•References: 18

The mobility of nomadic Indigenous people has been systematically constrained over time by states seeking control over peripheral spaces and people. This is evident in the case of the Kawésqar nomadic ‘people of the sea’ who have been subject to a century of attempts by the Chilean state to spatially fix their movements over both their terrestrial territories and marine ‘maritories’. In this paper, we show how Indigenous groups like the Kawésqar …

The Royal Navy's officer F.C.P. Vereker did like to paint, and he did live on board between 1865 and 1884. Since he was 15 and up to his 34 he travelled through the world engaging in different tasks, as sounding the coasts of Patagonia and Australia, or bombing the port of Fort Jesus, in current Kenya.
