Pathways to environmental sustainability: Exploring the role of FinTech, natural resources and globalization in North Africa
In recent years, financial technology (FinTech), natural resources, and globalization have gained prominence as key factors influencing environmental sustainability. However, there is a lack of research on their impact on the Load Capacity Factor (LCF) within the framework of the Load Capacity Curve (LCC) hypothesis, particularly in the North African region. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the heterogeneous effects of FinTech, natural r…
Policy Pathways to Environmental Sustainability: Integrating Green Growth, ICT and Resource Endowment in Emerging Economies
Amid accelerating digital transformation and the global pursuit of sustainability, understanding how technology, resource use and green growth (GG) interact to shape environmental outcomes has become increasingly vital. This study applies Hansen's threshold regression covering the period 1990–2023 to capture nonlinear and regime‐dependent dynamics within an extended STIRPAT framework. The results reveal that population and economic growth intensi…
On the effects of Covid-19 pandemic on stock prices: An imminent global threat
Dynamic spillovers between precious metals and travel & tourism stocks in South-East Asia: Do infectious disease outbreaks matter
The interconnection between travel and leisure industry and precious metals markets has attracted a lot of interest among investors, policy makers, practitioners and market participants. We investigate the role of infectious diseases-based uncertainty on the dynamic connectedness between Southeast Asia travel and tourism stocks indices and four major precious metals namely; gold, silver, palladium, and platinum over the period 31 March 2015 to 5 …
Oil Prices and Exchange Rate Dynamics: How Important Is the Role of Asymmetry and Structural Breaks
In this paper, we model the relationship between oil price and exchange rate for Nigeria using monthly data from January 1997 to December 2019. The contributions of this paper are twofold: (i) we employ both the Symmetric ARDL and Asymmetric ARDL, and (ii) we also account for multiple structural changes in regression models. The following findings are apparent from our analyses. First, an increase in oil prices leads to depreciation of the Naira …
Dynamic spillovers and connectedness between Covid-19 pandemic and global foreign exchange markets
This paper examines dynamic spillovers and connectedness between global covid-19 occurrences and the Global FX market. We specifically analyse the spillovers using six most traded currency pairs in the world utilizing daily data for the period December 31, 2019 to April 10, 2020. The paper employs the Diebold and Yilmaz (DY hereafter) (2009, 2012) approach to compute the spillover indexes. We also consider the rolling window analyses to capture t…
