  • Risk Factors for Treatment Drop-Out

Patricia Ann Iovine, David A Drachman et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Social Work Practice…•2020

Pathways to resolve the opioid epidemic focus on enhancing addiction treatment. Dropout rates from outpatient buprenorphine-naloxone (BN) treatment remain as high as 35% to 59%, contributing to poor treatment outcomes. Treatment interventions targeting retention require identification of dropout risk factors. This study used the New York State Office of Alcohol and Substance Abuse Services database to analyze patient information from an ancillary…

  • Voluntariness to Consent to Research in a Voluntarily and Involuntarily Hospitalized Psychiatric Population

Open Access•Nancy L Van Der Veer, David A Drachman et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Empirical Research on…•2011

The purpose of our study was to examine rates of consent to participate in research in voluntarily and involuntarily hospitalized psychiatric patients in order to evaluate factors that may influence the decision to participate in research. We used logistic regression models to evaluate differences and found that involuntary patients were less likely to consent to participate. After adjustment for covariates, we found that consent rates did not di…

  • Clinical diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease

Open Access•Guy M Mckhann, Guy McKhann et al.•ARTICLE•Neurology•1984

Clinical criteria for the diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease include insidious onset and progressive impairment of memory and other cognitive functions. There are no motor, sensory, or coordination deficits early in the disease. The diagnosis cannot be determined by laboratory tests. These tests are important primarily in identifying other possible causes of dementia that must be excluded before the diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease may be made with…

  • The “Memory Cliff” beyond Span in Immediate Recall

    Open Access•David A Drachman, Misha S Zaks•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1967

Immediate recall of sub-span, span length, and supra-span memoranda was tested in 27 normal nursing students. Random series of digits and consonant letters ranging from 5 to 20 items were presented at the rate of 1 per second. Maximum recall occurred with memoranda of approximately span length, with a sharp drop of recall as span was exceeded. Absolute recall of supra-span memoranda remained at a plateau after the initial drop. The use of a speci…
