The temporal dynamics of third-party moral judgment of harm transgressions: Answers from a 2-response paradigm
Recent work supports the role of reasoning in third-party moral judgment of harm transgressions. The dynamics of the underlying cognitive processes supporting moral judgment is however poorly understood. In two preregistered experiments, we addressed this issue using a two-response paradigm. Participants were presented with moral scenarios twice: they had to provide their first judgment about an agent under both time pressure and interfering load…
Agents' moral character shapes people's moral evaluations of accidental harm transgressions
The association between personality traits and third-party moral judgment: A preregistered study
The present preregistered study investigated the relationship between personality traits and third-party moral judgment, with specific predictions about honesty-humility, emotionality, and conscientiousness. Participants (N = 405) completed the HEXACO personality questionnaire and read short narratives describing the interaction between an agent and a victim. We manipulated the intent of the agent (harmful or neutral) and the outcome for the vict…
Participation and Opinion Change as Related to Cohesiveness and Sex of S s in Two-Person Groups
Three sets of equal numbers of male and female pairs of Ss were studied. In one set both members of each pair had been told that they should like each other. In a second set, one member had been given this information whereas the other had been told that there was no reason to believe he would get along with the other. In a third set, both pair members had been given the negative pre-instruction. The dependent measures were the amount of particip…
Persuasiveness and Persuasibility as Related to Intelligence and Emotional Responsiveness
This study was concerned with the contribution of intelligence and emotional responsiveness to persuasiveness and persuasibility of human Ss. Each pair of Ss was required to discuss a topic on which they had initially divergent opinions, with the persuasiveness of one over the other defined as shorter latency of first statement and higher frequency of participation in the discussion, and persuasibility as likelihood of opinion change. Three group…
