Confronting Carl Rogers: A Developmental-Interactional Approach to Person-Centered Therapy
The author argues that person-centered therapy in its pure form is too person-centered. An overly optimistic belief in the actualizing tendency and organismic valuing process has led to de facto passivity on the part of the therapist through an almost exclusive reliance on empathy and unconditional positive regard in the psychotherapeutic encounter. The Humanistic Conscience: An Inquiry into the Development of Principled Moral Character
This article criticizes humanistic theories that relate moral behavior to the drive for self-actualization, and instead proposes a multidimensional model of the humanistic conscience that stresses the integration of conative, affective, and rational processes within the person.
