  • Dietary patterns of women aged 50–69 years and associations with nutrient intake, sociodemographic factors and key risk factors for non-communicable diseases

Open Access•Marianne Skov Markussen, Marit B Veierød et al.•ARTICLE•Public Health Nutrition•2016

Objective In women, the risk for non-communicable diseases increases after menopause. We aimed to identify major dietary patterns and study their associations with nutrient intake, sociodemographic factors and risk factors for non-communicable diseases among women aged 50–69 years. Design A cross-sectional study. Food intake was recorded by a 253-item FFQ. Dietary patterns were identified using principal component analysis. The associations betwe…

  • Food items contributing most to variation in antioxidant intake; a cross-sectional study among Norwegian women

Open Access•Samera Azeem Qureshi, Annette Christin Lund et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2014

In this study we identified a list of food items which capture the variation in antioxidant intake among these women. The major contributors to dietary total antioxidant intake were coffee, tea, red wine, blueberries, walnuts, oranges, cinnamon and broccoli. These items should be assessed in as much detail as possible in studies that wish to capture the variation in antioxidant intake

  • Comparing methods for handling missing values in food-frequency questionnaires and proposing k nearest neighbours imputation

Open Access•Christine L Parr, Anette Hjartåker et al.•ARTICLE•Public Health Nutrition•2008

Objective To investigate item non-response in a postal food-frequency questionnaire (FFQ), and to assess the effect of substituting/imputing missing values on dietary intake levels in the Norwegian Women and Cancer study (NOWAC). We have adapted and probably for the first time applied k nearest neighbours (KNN) imputation to FFQ data. Design Data from a recent reproducibility study were used. The FFQ was mailed twice (test–retest) about 3 months …

Objective: To analyse factors associated with breast-feeding and use of sweetened drinks at 12 months, and to compare dietary habits among breast-fed and non-breast-fed infants. Design: Data were collected by a semi-quantitative food-frequency questionnaire filled in by the parents. Setting: National dietary survey in Norway. Subjects: In total, 1932 12-month-old infants were included. Results: At 12 months, 36% of the infants were breast-fed. Th…
