  • Accelerometer-measured absolute versus relative physical activity intensity

Open Access•Jonatan Fridolfsson, Daniel Arvidsson et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2023

Accelerometer-measured relative physical activity intensity represents the intensity related to health benefits regardless of fitness level. Traditional absolute moderate intensity accelerometer cut-offs are too low for most individuals and should be adapted to the fitness level in the sample studied. Absolute and relative physical activity intensity cannot be used interchangeably

  • Social Support and Subclinical Coronary Artery Disease in Middle-Aged Men and Women

Open Access•Demir Djekic, Erika Fagman et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2020

Social support has been associated with coronary artery disease (CAD), particularly in individuals who have sustained a cardiovascular event. This study investigated the relationship between social support and subclinical CAD among 1067 healthy middle-aged men and women. Social support was assessed with validated social integration and emotional attachment measures. Subclinical CAD was assessed as a coronary artery calcium score (CACS) using comp…

  • Device-Measured Sedentary Behavior, Physical Activity and Aerobic Fitness Are Independent Correlates of Cognitive Performance in Healthy Middle-Aged Adults—Results from the SCAPIS Pilot Study

Open Access•Maria Ekblom, Örjan Ekblom et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2019

High aerobic fitness, more moderate to vigorous physical activity (MVPA) and less sedentary behavior (SED) have all been suggested to promote cognitive functions, but it is unclear whether they are independent predictors of specific cognitive domains. This study aimed to investigate to what extent aerobic fitness MVPA and SED are independently associated with cognitive performance among middle-aged Swedish adults. We acquired device-based measure…

  • Concurrent and predictive validity of physical activity measurement items commonly used in clinical settings– data from SCAPIS pilot study

    Open Access•Örjan Ekblom, Elin Ekblom‐Bak et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2015

Assessing PA patterns using self-report measures results in methodological problems when trying to predict individual risk for the metabolic syndrome, as the concurrent validity generally was low. However, several of the investigated questions may be useful for assessing risk at a group level, showing better predictive validity

  • Self-efficacy regarding physical activity is superior to self-assessed activity level, in long-term prediction of cardiovascular events in middle-aged men

Open Access•Göran Bergström, Mats Börjesson et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2015

Self-efficacy to perform physical activity was strongly and independently associated with cardiovascular events and was superior to self-assessed physical activity in predicting cardiovascular events during 13-years of follow-up in a group of middle-aged men, without known CVD or treatment with cardiovascular drugs
