  • A New Equation to Estimate Glomerular Filtration Rate

    Open Access•Andrew S Levey, Lesley A Stevens et al.•ARTICLE•Annals of Internal Medicine•2009

BACKGROUND: Equations to estimate glomerular filtration rate (GFR) are routinely used to assess kidney function. Current equations have limited precision and systematically underestimate measured GFR at higher values. OBJECTIVE: To develop a new estimating equation for GFR: the Chronic Kidney Disease Epidemiology Collaboration (CKD-EPI) equation. DESIGN: Cross-sectional analysis with separate pooled data sets for equation development and validati…

  • Association Between Primary Care Practice Characteristics and Emergency Department Use in a Medicaid Managed Care Organization

    R A Lowe, A Russell Localio et al.•ARTICLE•Medical Care•2005•References: 44

BACKGROUND: Many patients use emergency departments (EDs) for primary care. Previous studies have found that patient characteristics affect ED utilization. However, such studies have led to few policy changes. OBJECTIVES: We sought to determine whether Medicaid patients' ED use is associated with characteristics of their primary care practices. RESEARCH DESIGN: This was a cohort study. SUBJECTS: A total of 57,850 patients, assigned to 353 primary…

  • Renal failure among male Hispanics in the United States

Anne Page Chiapella, Harold I Feldman•ARTICLE•American Journal of Public Health•1995•References: 19

This study examined epidemiologic patterns and time trends among male patients with Hispanic surnames in the Medicare End-Stage Renal Disease Program and compared US Hispanics with non-Hispanic Blacks and Whites. Male Hispanics had substantially higher proportions of end-stage renal disease attributed to diabetes than did Blacks and Whites. There were notable regional differences among Hispanics. Between 1980 and 1990, the incidence of treated re…

  • Current Controversies in Marriage and Family

Open Access•James White, James Matthew White et al.•ARTICLE•The Canadian Journal of Sociology•1986

  • Factors differentiating Awol from non-Awol trainees

Harold Feldman, Harold I Feldman et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Abnormal & Social…•1948

Matched groups of AWOL and non-AWOL trainees were rated on 185 items of previous behavior. 26 items seem predictive of probable AWOL's. The general signs are maladjustment in pre-Army life, habits of fleeing from unpleasant situations, somatic complaints, or aggression. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2006 APA, all rights reserved)
