  • HIV status disclosure among postpartum women in rural Tanzania

    Eveline Geubbels, A Williams et al.•ARTICLE•AIDS Care•2018

HIV status disclosure is a key support strategy to start and maintain HIV care and treatment and to reduce HIV transmission. We explored the patterns and correlates of disclosure and described the effectiveness of nurse-facilitated disclosure among HIV-infected mothers of infants in coastal Tanzania. We enrolled 400 HIV positive women in an observational longitudinal study in 2011, interviewed them about maternal sociodemographic and economic cha…

Open Access•Josh M Jorgensen, Zhenyu Yang et al.•ARTICLE•Maternal and Child Nutrition•2016

We examined the effect of iron-containing prenatal vitamin-mineral supplements taken postpartum on biomarkers of iron status and oxidative stress. Lactating women (n = 114) were randomly assigned to consume daily one iron-free prenatal vitamin-mineral supplement plus either 27 mg of iron or placebo for approximately 3.5 months. The placebo group took the tablets between meals, while those given iron took the tablets either with (Fe-W) or between …

Design Qualitative study using a socio-ecological framework for data collection. Setting Low-i…

  • The Infant Feeding Intentions scale demonstrates construct validity and comparability in quantifying maternal breastfeeding intentions across multiple ethnic groups

    Open Access•Laurie A Nommsen-Rivers, Laurie A Nommsen‐Rivers et al.•ARTICLE•Maternal and Child Nutrition•2009

Research tools that are comparable across ethnic groups are needed in order to understand sociodemographic disparities in breastfeeding rates. The Infant Feeding Intentions (IFI) scale provides a quantitative measure of maternal breastfeeding intentions. IFI score ranges from 0 (no intention to breastfeed) to 16 (very strong intentions to fully breastfeed for 6 months). The objective of this study was to examine intra- and inter-ethnic validity o…
