Does China’s University Science and Technology Investment Facilitates Its New Quality Productive Force Development Objectives
Over the past few decades, “governing by numbers” in higher education has made significant strides. In this context, Chinese universities have actively responded to national policy demands, represented by the “New Quality Productive Force” (NQPF) strategies. Drawing on panel data from 30 Chinese provinces, municipalities, and autonomous regions from 2012 to 2022, this study employs two-way fixed-effects and mediation-effects models to empirically…
Classical risk factors of cardiovascular disease among Chinese male steel workers
Our study documents that hypertension, smoking, overweight and hypercholesterolemia are major conventional risk factors of CVD in Chinese male adults. Continued strengthening programs for prevention and intervention on these risk factors are needed to reduce the incidence of CVD in China
Mortality from suicide and other external cause injuries in China
External cause mortality has become a major public health problem in China. Developing an integrated national program for the prevention of mortality due to external cause injuries in China is warranted
Blood pressure, body mass index and risk of cardiovascular disease in Chinese men and women
Our study suggests that the magnitude of the association between BP and CVD generally increase with increasing BMI. Hypertension should not be regarded as a less serious risk factor in obese than in lean or normal-weight persons in Chinese adults
Prevalence of the metabolic syndrome and overweight among adults in China
Cigarette Smoking and Exposure to Environmental Tobacco Smoke in China
Objectives. We estimated the prevalence of cigarette smoking and the extent of environmental tobacco smoke exposure (ETS) in the general population in China. Methods. A cross-sectional survey was conducted on a nationally representative sample of 15540 Chinese adults aged 35–74 years in 2000–2001. Information on cigarette smoking was obtained by trained interviewers using a standard questionnaire. Results. The prevalence of current cigarette smok…
