  • Google Trends and Baidu index data in tourism demand forecasting

    Open Access•Josip Mikulić, Richard Baumgartner et al.•ARTICLE•Tourism Management•2025•References: 31

  • Residence in urban or rural counties in relation to opioid overdose mortality among Kentucky hospitalizations before and during the Covid-19 pandemic

    Open Access•Lyndsey K Blair, J T Howard et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of Drug…•2023

  • Epidemiology of Sarcopenia among the Elderly in New Mexico

R N Baumgartner, Richard Baumgartner et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Epidemiology•1998

Muscle mass decreases with age, leading to "sarcopenia," or low relative muscle mass, in elderly people. Sarcopenia is believed to be associated with metabolic, physiologic, and functional impairments and disability. Methods of estimating the prevalence of sarcopenia and its associated risks in elderly populations are lacking. Data from a population-based survey of 883 elderly Hispanic and non-Hispanic white men and women living in New Mexico (th…

  • Reliability for multiple frequency bioelectric impedance

Open Access•Wm Cameron Chumlea, Shumei S Guo et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Human Biology•1994

Multifrequency impedance may help to quantify body fluid compartments and levels of hydration among individuals. Most studies of bioelectric impedance use impedance machines operating at a frequency of 50 kHz, and observer error is low. The present study evaluates multifrequency impedance measurements at 15 frequencies from 5 to 1,300 kHz to determine observer reliability in 20 White subjects of each sex, 18–65 years of age. Data were collected d…

  • Association of adipose tissue distribution with relative skeletal age in boys

Open Access•Huanjiu Xi, Alex F Roche et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Human Biology•1989

The association between relative skeletal age and fat patterning was analyzed by using data from the Fels Longitudinal Study for boys at chronological ages 8 to 17 years. Fat patterning, as indicated by age‐specific means for three skinfold thickness indices adjusted for weight/stature 2 , was peripheral between 8 and 12 years of chronological age but began to increase in a centripetal direction towards a generalized distribution after 13 years. …

  • Maturity and its relationship to plasma lipid and lipoprotein levels in adolescents

    Open Access•R M Siervogel, R N Baumgartner et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Human Biology•1989

During adolescence, changes in lipid and lipoprotein levels have been reported to be associated with changes in body composition and changes in endogenous testosterone and estradiol. These hormone levels are directly correlated with sexual and skeletal maturity levels. The purpose of the present study was to determine if there are associations during pubescence and adolescence, independent of chronological age, between measures of maturity and bo…

  • Clustering of cardiovascular risk factors in association with indices of adiposity and adipose tissue distribution in adults

Open Access•Richard N Baumgartner, Richard Baumgartner et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Human Biology•1989

The hypothesis, that clustering of elevated levels of blood pressures, plasma lipids and lipoprotein cholesterols, and serum glucose in men and women was associated with indices of adiposity and adipose tissue distributione was tested while controlling for family membership, age, level of education, income, and smoking as well as menopause (surgical and natural )and the use of oral contraceptives and replacement estrogens in women. The study popu…
