Stakeholder Conflicts in Low-Carbon Tourism
Low-carbon tourism initiatives frequently generate stakeholder conflicts, even when sustainability goals are widely shared. This study examines how such conflicts arise and propagate in heritage tourism, using Quanzhou Ancient City, China, as the focal case. Findings show that government officials, tourism operators, residents, and tourists hold divergent cognitive, emotional, and behavioural orientations toward low-carbon policies. These diverge…
The pulse of urban
Existing studies have examined the innovation effects of transportation infrastructure such as high-speed rail, metro systems, and highways. However, limited attention has been paid to whether and how transport linkages between neighbouring cities shape innovation outcomes. This paper exploits the opening of the Guangzhou–Foshan cross-city metro system in 2010 as a quasi-natural experiment and employs grid-level data from 2006 to 2018. The result…
Effects of a VR-based blended approach on tourist geographic literacy, satisfaction, and problem-solving in geography field trips
Geography field trips offer students opportunities to step outside the classroom, fostering the development of their observational and problem-solving skills. However, without adequent preparation and clear objectives, students’ engagement, experience, and learning effectiveness during the field trip are often compromised. Therefore, this study integrated inquiry-based learning and Kolb’s experiential learning cycle to propose a virtual reality-b…
Enhancing students’ art attitudes and analytical thinking skills through a design thinking-based metaverse approach
Art appreciation is a form of input activity through which learners perceive and interpret the aesthetic and cultural dimensions of artworks, thereby establishing the foundation for their subsequent artistic creation. In the current art appreciation classroom, students generally face difficulties in acquiring personalised aesthetic experiences and an inability to deeply comprehend and analyse artworks. To this end, this study proposed a design th…

To this end, 90 students majoring in medical laboratory technology in 2020 were selected as research subjects and randomly divided into experimental and control groups. The experimental group adopted an online and offline blended teaching model, while the contr…
Application and comparison of five risk assessment methods in ferrous metal foundry enterprises with silica dust concentration exceeding the limit posts
Background Explore methods to accurately reflect the risk level of ferrous metal foundry workplaces when the silica dust concentration exceeds the limit, and provide a basis for the application of risk assessment techniques in key industries with occupational exposure to silica dust. Methods The survey was conducted in 25 ferrous metal casting industries in Henan Province, China. Five occupational health risk assessment (OHRA) methods, including …
Effects of Outdoor and Household Air Pollution on Hand Grip Strength in a Longitudinal Study of Rural Beijing Adults
Background: Outdoor and household PM 2.5 are established risk factors for chronic disease and early mortality. In China, high levels of outdoor PM 2.5 and solid fuel use for cooking and heating, especially in winter, pose large health risks to the country's aging population. Hand grip strength is a validated biomarker of functional aging and strong predictor of disability and mortality in older adults. We investigated the effects of wintertime ho…
Challenges and facilitators in repeated bio-behavioural surveys for blood-borne virus infections in Australian prisons
The high participation and informative findings indicated clear feasibility of this improved surveillance system. Strong stakeholder engagement and flexibility in logistics facilitated successful implementation of multi-jurisdictional prison-based surveillance
Prevalence and engagement with healthcare services for hepatitis B infection among people in prison in Australia
HBsAg prevalence was low overall, but disproportionately higher among First Nations people and people born overseas. Lower likelihood of HBV in people injecting drugs might be explained by higher chance of spontaneous clearance in adulthood or high-coverage HBV vaccination programs for children and adolescents, and subsequent immunity in many people by the time they start injecting drugs. Prison-based HBV testing uptake and vaccination coverage w…
Impact of academic title structure of university research teams on research output
Despite widespread agreement in the scholarly community about the significance of academic title structure on research output, research on the underlying mechanisms remains insufficient. Social contribution and research resources were selected as mediating variables, panel data of the materials science and engineering discipline of 30 Chinese universities from 2016 to 2020 were chosen as the research samples, and a fixed-effects model was subsequ…

Permafrost thermal dynamics at a local scale in northern Da Xing’anling Mountains
Permafrost in Northeastern China is not only controlled by latitude and elevation, but also locally environmental factors, such as vegetation cover and human activities. During 2009–2022, thinning active layer, increasing annual maximum frost depth in talik zones and lowering ground temperature above the depth of dividing point (DDP) between permafrost cooling and warming have been observed in many places, possibly due to the global warming hiatu…
Biogeographic patterns shape the bacterial community beyond permafrost gradients
Global warming has led to extensive permafrost degradation, particularly in thermally vulnerable permafrost in the marginal or transitional zones of altitudinal or latitudinal permafrost. However, comprehensive knowledge about microbial communities in response to rapid permafrost degradation at large (or interregional) scales remains elusive. In this meta-analysis, existing published data were utilized to identify the distributive and co-occurren…

Traditional village tourism development is influenced by cultural landscape authenticity and tourists’ behavioural intentions. Data was collected from 347 tourists through field surveying. Structural equation modelling was used to explore interactions between traditional village cultural landscape (TVCL) authenticity, memorable tourism experiences (MTE) and place attachment (PA) in driving tourist behavioural intentions. TVCL authenticity, MTE an…
Influence of wildfire on the rapidly changing features of patchy permafrost, Northeast China
As an active ecological agent in the boreal forest, wildfires have many important impacts on the underlying permafrost. However, investigations of post‐fire changes in the features of ecosystem‐protected permafrost are extremely limited in the patchy permafrost regions, Northeast China. Additionally, the impacts of wildfires on patchy permafrost are complicated in this region. In this paper, based on field surveys and observations, permafrost fea…

Changes in the permafrost environment under dual impacts of climate change and human activities in the Hola basin, northern Da Xing'anling Mountains, Northeast China
The Hola basin in the northern Da Xing'anling Mountains in Northeast China has been extensively developed for coal mining since the 1980s, resulting in a significantly degrading permafrost environment. However, the changing thermal state of permafrost under the boreal forest remains unclear. Based on ground temperature records from nine monitoring boreholes at three areas (disturbed, backfilled, and undisturbed areas) from 2015 to 2020, the therm…
Land use and cover change in Northeast China and its impacts on the Xing'an permafrost in 1980s–2010s
Boreal forest and wetland have important influences on the development and protection of the ecosystem‐dominated Xing'an permafrost. However, the responses of different ecosystems to climate change and the impacts on the underlying permafrost are still unclear. Here, based on the multi‐period land use/land cover (LULC) data and long‐time series of air temperature, combined with the ordinary least squares (OLS) and ordinary kriging (OK) methods, t…
Towards medical knowmetrics
In China, Prof. Hongzhou Zhao and Zeyuan Liu are the pioneers of the concept “knowledge unit” and “knowmetrics” for measuring knowledge. However, the definition on “computable knowledge object” remains controversial so far in different fields. For example, it is defined as (1) quantitative scientific concept in natural science and engineering, (2) knowledge point in the field of education research, and (3) semantic predications, i.e., Subject-Pre…
Investigating the Critical Factors of Professionals’ BIM Adoption Behavior Based on the Theory of Planned Behavior
In recent years, building information modeling (BIM) has been receiving growing interest from the construction industry of China. Nevertheless, although BIM has many foreseeable advantages, many studies claimed that these advantages have not been sufficiently achieved in practice at the current stage. In this circumstance, it is interesting to investigate what really drives the adoption of BIM. Based on Ajzen's theory of planned behavior (TPB), a…
