  • Evaluating the social return on investment of nature-based social prescribing to alleviate loneliness

Open Access•Veronika Papon, Sibylle Puntscher et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2026

Introduction: Loneliness is associated with adverse health outcomes, including cardiovascular diseases, depression, and premature mortality, and is unequally distributed according to social determinants. Prescribing individuals to community-based interventions in nature, often described as nature-based social prescribing (NBSP), has emerged as a promising intervention to address loneliness. This study aims to quantify the social return of investm…

  • Systematic review on community-based interventions targeting prevention of overweight and obesity in children and adolescents

Open Access•Júlia Santamaria, Nikolai Mühlberger et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2025

Background: With increasing obesity rates, community-based interventions (CBIs) have gained attention as more evidence suggests that the environment has a significant impact on individuals' behaviors. We aimed to conduct a systematic review of CBIs for preventing overweight/obesity in children and adolescents. Subject and methods: We searched PubMed (January 2011-December 2024) for studies evaluating CBIs for the prevention of overweight and obes…

  • General population preferences for health-related protective behaviors during infectious disease emergencies

  • Systematic Literature Review of Decision‐Analytic Modeling Studies on Nature‐Based Social Prescribing and Loneliness

Open Access•Ursula Rochau, Veronika Papon et al.•ARTICLE•Health & Social Care in the…•2025•References: 1

Nature‐based social prescribing (NBSP) is an evolving subject aiming to reduce loneliness and to foster social connections, health, and well‐being. To evaluate the short‐term and long‐term consequences of different health technologies, decision‐analytic modeling can be applied. Decision‐analytic modeling studies systematically integrate current short‐ and long‐term evidence to weigh benefits, harms, and costs of different strategies. Our systemat…

  • Nature-based social interventions to address loneliness among vulnerable populations

    Open Access•Laura Coll‐Planas, Laura Coll-Planas et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2024

Barcelona (Spain) trial: ClinicalTrials.gov, ID: NCT05488496. Registered 29 July 2022. Prague (Czech Republic) trial: ClinicalTrials.gov, ID: NCT05522140. Registered August 25, 2022. Helsinki (Finland) trial: ClinicalTrials.gov, ID: NCT05507684. Registered August 12, 2022

  • Effects of Motorcycle Noise on Annoyance—A Cross-Sectional Study in the Alps

Open Access•Christoph Lechner, David Schnaiter et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2020

Motorcycle noise is an increasing noise problem, especially in Alpine valleys with winding roads and low environmental noise. The annoyance response to motorcycle engine noise is extraordinarily high in comparison to other traffic noise and cannot be explained by standard noise assessment curves. Therefore, the Tyrolean state government decided to initiate a multi-purpose study. Exposures were calculated based on sound-measurements taken across t…

  • Benefits and harms of prostate cancer screening – predictions of the Oncotyrol prostate cancer outcome and policy model

Open Access•Nikolai Mühlberger, Kristijan Boskovic et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2017

Assumptions about PCa risk and screen-detectable prevalence significantly affect the benefit-harm balance of screening. Based on the assumptions of our model, PCa screening should focus on candidates with familial predisposition with consideration of individual QoL preferences and age. Active surveillance may require treatment initiation before Gleason score progression to 7. Alternative active surveillance strategies should be evaluated in furth…

  • Introduction of organised mammography screening in tyrol

Open Access•Willi Oberaigner, Wolfgang Buchberger et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2011

In the Tyrolean breast cancer screening program, a smooth transition from a spontaneous to an organised mammography screening system was achieved in a short time and with minimal additional resources. One year after introduction of the screening program, most of the quality indicators recommended by the European guidelines had been reached. However, it will be necessary to introduce double reading, to change the rule for BI-RADS 3, and to concentr…

  • Introduction of organised mammography screening in Tyrol

Open Access•Willi Oberaigner, Martin Daniaux et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2011

In Tyrol, Austria, an organised mammography screening program was implemented in a smooth transition from an existing spontaneous screening system and was completely rolled out within a short time. The high level of performance already seen in the pilot phase was maintained after rollout, and improvements resulting from the pilot phase were affirmed after one year of complete rollout

  • Breast cancer incidence and mortality in Tyrol/Austria after fifteen years of opportunistic mammography screening

Open Access•Willi Oberaigner, Wolfgang Buchberger et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2010

The opportunistic breast cancer screening programme in Tyrol has only in part exploited the mortality reduction known for organised screening programmes. There seems to be potential for further improvement, and we recommend that an organised screening programme and a detailed screening database be introduced to collect all information needed to analyse the quality indicators suggested by the EU guidelines

  • Comparing the clinical effectiveness of different new-born hearing screening strategies. A decision analysis

Open Access•Eva Grill, Franz Hessel et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2005

We have shown that UNHS is able to detect hearing impairment at an earlier age and more accurately than selective RS. Further research should be carried out to establish the effects of hearing loss on the quality of life of an individual, its influence on school performance and career achievement and the differences made by early fitting of a hearing aid on these factors
