Can green cycling paths reduce commuter exposure to ultrafine particles? A repeated measures study in Copenhagen, Denmark
Background In urban environments, road traffic is the primary source of ultrafine particle (UFP) exposure. Cycling along green paths, away from traffic, may reduce commute-related air pollution exposure. This study quantifies commuter exposure to UFP in urban environments and the potential reduction when cycling on green paths. Methods Over six weeks (February-March 2024), 40 cycling trips were performed on a fixed 8.3 km route (∼35 minutes) in C…
Housing type and risk of depression – the mediating effects of perceived indoor annoyances and loneliness
Individuals living in certain housing types had a significantly higher IR of depression compared to individuals in owner-occupied detached houses. Our findings suggest that some of the excessed depression incidents among individuals living in rented apartments and rented terrace houses compared to detached houses could be attributed to differences in the number of perceived indoor annoyances and perceived loneliness. However, future studies are n…

Indoor and Outdoor Exposure to Ultrafine, Fine and Microbiologically Derived Particulate Matter Related to Cardiovascular and Respiratory Effects in a Panel of Elderly Urban Citizens
To explore associations of exposure to ambient and indoor air particulate and bio-aerosol pollutants with cardiovascular and respiratory disease markers, we utilized seven repeated measurements from 48 elderly subjects participating in a 4-week home air filtration study. Microvascular function (MVF), lung function, blood leukocyte counts, monocyte adhesion molecule expression, C-reactive protein, Clara cell protein (CC16) and surfactant protein-D…
Apparent Temperature and Cause-Specific Mortality in Copenhagen, Denmark
Temperature, a key climate change indicator, is expected to increase substantially in the Northern Hemisphere, with potentially grave implications for human health. This study is the first to investigate the association between the daily 3-hour maximum apparent temperature (Tapp(max)), and respiratory, cardiovascular and cerebrovascular mortality in Copenhagen (1999-2006) using a case-crossover design. Susceptibility was investigated for age, sex…
Intake of wholegrain products is associated with dietary, lifestyle, anthropometric and socio-economic factors in Denmark
Objective To evaluate the association between wholegrain products intake and other dietary, lifestyle, anthropometric and socio-economic factors. Design Cross-sectional study, with data on diet, lifestyle and socio-economic factors obtained from questionnaires. Anthropometric measurements were collected by trained professionals. Multiple linear and principal components regression analyses were used in statistical analyses. Setting Part of the Die…
