  • Maternal Socioeconomic Factors and Racial/Ethnic Differences in Neonatal Anthropometry

Open Access•Calvin Lambert, Jessica L Gleason et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2020

Disparities in birthweight by maternal race/ethnicity are commonly observed. It is unclear to what extent these disparities are correlates of individual socioeconomic factors. In a prospective cohort of 1645 low-risk singleton pregnancies included in the NICHD Fetal Growth Study (2009-2013), neonatal anthropometry was measured by trained personnel using a standard protocol. Socioeconomic characteristics included employment status, marital status,…

  • Detecting and staging podoconiosis cases in North West Cameroon

    Open Access•Samuel Wanji, Jonas A Kengne-Ouafo et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2016

Podoconiosis being a stigmatized disease, the use of CHIs who are familiar to the community appears appropriate for identifying cases through clinical diagnosis. However, to improve their effectiveness and accuracy, more training, supervision and support are required. More emphasis must be given in identifying early clinical stages and in health districts with relatively lower PPVs

  • Podoconiosis patients’ willingness to pay for treatment services in Northwest Ethiopia

Open Access•Abreham Tamiru, Girmay Tsegay et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2014

The considerable WTP estimates showed that podoconiosis treatment could improve sustainability and service utilization. A subsidized cost recovery scheme could reduce treatment costs and more feasibility integrate podoconiosis treatment service with other NTDs and the government's primary health care system

  • Using a “genomics tool” to develop disease prevention strategy in a low-income setting

Open Access•Fasil Tekola-Ayele, Fasil Tekola Ayele et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Community Genetics•2012

  • Tailoring Information Provision and Consent Processes to Research Contexts

Open Access•Susan Bull, Bobbie Farsides et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Empirical Research on…•2012•Cited by: 1•References: 7

Guidance requires that consent processes for research be appropriately tailored to their cultural context. This paper discusses the use of rapid assessments to identify cultural and ethical issues arising when explaining research in studies in The Gambia and Ethiopia. The assessments provided insights into appropriate ways of providing information to minimize the risk of stigmatizing vulnerable research populations; research participants' views a…
