  • Health impact bonds as an innovative payment model for health prevention programs

Open Access•Yunfei Li, Jiayuan GUO et al.•ARTICLE•Social Science & Medicine•2026

Health impact bonds (HIBs) are an innovative outcome-based financing model increasingly applied in public health programs. This study aimed to comprehensively summarize their applications, benefits, and challenges in health prevention programs. In this scoping, 31 peer-reviewed papers and 19 websites were eligible for inclusion. Key characteristics of the programs were extracted, including details of the interventions, health and financial outcom…

  • A qualitative study on the impact and participation in the Ageless multidomain intervention

Open Access•Ying Qian Ong, Suzana Shahar et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2025

The AGELESS multidomain intervention was well received by older adults with CF and their caregivers who participated in this study. Moving forward, it is recommended that future initiatives focus on identifying opportunities to implement existing evidence-based programs on a larger scale for the prevention of dementia in older adults

  • The expectations and experiences of patients regarding the diagnostic workup at a specialized memory clinic

Open Access•Malin Aspö, Maria Sundell et al.•ARTICLE•Health Expectations•2024

BACKGROUND: Because of the shift towards earlier diagnosis of dementia and/or Alzheimer's disease (AD), increasing numbers of individuals with subjective cognitive decline (SCD) and mild cognitive impairment (MCI) are seen in memory clinics. Yet, evidence indicates that there is room for improvement when it comes to tailoring of the diagnostic work-up to the needs of individual patients. To optimize the quality of care, we explored patients' pers…

  • Social activities in multidomain dementia prevention interventions

    Open Access•Jeroen Bruinsma, Leonie N C Visser et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2024

Based on these insights, we advocate for research that strengthens and accelerates the integration of social activities into multidomain interventions for dementia prevention. We propose several ways to achieve this: (a) by conducting mixed methods research to formulate a broadly accepted definition and instructions to measure social activities; (b) by focusing on promoting engagement in social activities beyond the intervention setting; and (c) …

  • Changes in Brain-Health Related Modifiable Risk Factors in Older Adults After One Year of Covid-19-Restrictions

Open Access•Lisa Waterink, Els D Bakker et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2022

The COVID-19 pandemic has influenced lifestyle in both positive and negative ways. We identified (socio)demographic factors associated with more detrimental changes in modifiable risk factors related to brain health, suggesting that some individuals are more vulnerable for the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. These findings provide an opportunity for targeted prevention and education to promote a healthy lifestyle during and after the pandemic

  • Changes in Lifestyle, Behaviors, and Risk Factors for Cognitive Impairment in Older Persons During the First Wave of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 Pandemic in Finland

Open Access•Jenni Lehtisalo, Katie Palmer et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2021

Aims: This study aimed to describe how the first phase of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic affected older persons from the general Finnish population who are at risk of developing or have cognitive impairment, specifically, to describe whether participants experienced a change in risk factors that are relevant for the prevention of cognitive decline including diet, physical activity, access to medical care, socially and cognitivel…

  • Lifestyle interventions to prevent cognitive impairment, dementia and Alzheimer disease

Open Access•Miia Kivipelto, Francesca Mangialasche et al.•ARTICLE•Nature Reviews Neurology•2018

  • Defeating Alzheimer's disease and other dementias

Open Access•Bengt Winblad, Philippe Amouyel et al.•ARTICLE•The Lancet Neurology•2016

  • A 2 year multidomain intervention of diet, exercise, cognitive training, and vascular risk monitoring versus control to prevent cognitive decline in at-risk elderly people (Finger)

Open Access•Tiia Ngandu, Jenni Lehtisalo et al.•ARTICLE•The Lancet•2015

  • Recruitment and Baseline Characteristics of Participants in the Finnish Geriatric Intervention Study to Prevent Cognitive Impairment and Disability (Finger)—A Randomized Controlled Lifestyle Trial

Open Access•Tiia Ngandu, Jenni Lehtisalo et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2014

Our aim is to describe the study recruitment and baseline characteristics of the Finnish Geriatric Intervention Study to Prevent Cognitive Impairment and Disability (FINGER) study population. Potential study participants (age 60-77 years, the dementia risk score ≥ 6) were identified from previous population-based survey cohorts and invited to the screening visit. To be eligible, cognitive performance measured at the screening visit had to be at t…
