Child healthcare (CHC) nurses have a key role in promoting and supporting healthy lifestyle behaviors from a young age. Thus, this study aims to investigate the perspectives of CHC nurses regarding discussing food introduction, physical activity/active play, and screen time with parents; explore facilitators and barriers influencing the discussion of healthy lifestyle behaviors with parents; and explore the perspectives of CHC nurses regarding a …

  • Global effect of Covid-19 pandemic on physical activity, sedentary behaviour and sleep among 3- to 5-year-old children

    Open Access•Anthony D Okely, Katharina E Kariippanon et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2021

PA and SST levels of children from LMICs have been less impacted by COVID-19 than in HICs. Ensuring children can access an outdoor space, and supporting parents' mental health are important prerequisites for enabling pre-schoolers to practice healthy movement behaviours and meet the Global guidelines

Open Access•Christine Delisle Nyström, Adrian J Cameron et al.•ARTICLE•Public Health Nutrition•2021

Objective: This study aimed to assess whether the long-term effectiveness of the Melbourne Infant, Feeding, Activity and Nutrition Trial (INFANT) at 2 and 3·5 years post-intervention varied according to maternal education and age. Design: Two and 3·5 years post-intervention follow-up of the INFANT cluster-randomised controlled trial. Outcomes at both follow-ups included children’s BMI z -scores, physical activity (ActiGraph), television viewing (…

  • Relationships between area-level socioeconomic status and urbanization with active transportation, independent mobility, outdoor time, and physical activity among Canadian children

Open Access•Christine Delisle Nyström, Joel D Barnes et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2019

AT, IM, and physical activity are generally not associated with area-level SES or the type of urbanization in this sample of Canadian children. The finding regarding outdoor time showing that both boys and girls of lower SES areas had decreased odds of spending > 2 h outdoors on weekends compared to their peers from higher SES areas suggest that additional efforts should be implemented to offer outdoor play opportunities in lower SES areas

The Global Matrix 3.0 of Report Card grades on physical activity was developed to achieve a better understanding of the global variation in child and youth physical activity and associated supports. Methods : Work group…

  • Associations between domains of physical literacy by weight status in 8- to 12-year-old Canadian children

Open Access•Christine Delisle Nyström, Gregory Traversy et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2018

All of the domains of the CAPL correlate positively with each other regardless of weight status, with a trend for these correlation coefficients to be slightly stronger in the healthy-weight children. The overall weak to moderate correlations between the domains in both groups suggest that the CAPL domains are not measuring the same constructs, thus providing support for CAPL's psychometric architecture in both healthy-weight and overweight/obese…

  • The Smart City Active Mobile Phone Intervention (SCAMPI) study to promote physical activity through active transportation in healthy adults

Open Access•Anna Ek, Christina Alexandrou et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2018

This study has implications for other researchers or educators who are creating or using large field-based assessment measures in the areas of physical literacy, physical activity, or physical fitness, as this study demonstrates where problems in data collection can arise and how missing data can be avoided. When large proportions of missing data are present, imputation techniques, correction factors, or other treatment options may be required
