  • Elevated Daytime Urinary Excretion of Testosterone Glucuronide in Men with the Type A Behavior Pattern

Barnett Zumoff, Robert S Rosenfeld et al.•ARTICLE•Psychosomatic Medicine•1984

Urinary excretion of testosterone glucuronide was compared in 13 men with typical Type A behavior pattern (as determined by structured interviews) and 10 age-matched men with typical Type B behavior pattern. Twenty-four hour urine collections were divided into three periods: 9AM - 6PM , 6PM to bedtime, and bedtime to 9AM . Type A men showed a significantly higher excretion than Type B men in the daytime ( 9AM - 6PM ); the geometric mean value was…

  • Can the Type A Behavior Pattern be Altered after Myocardial Infarction? A Second Year Report from the Recurrent Coronary Prevention Project

Lynda H Powell, MEYER FRIEDMAN et al.•ARTICLE•Psychosomatic Medicine•1984

The feasibility of altering a Type A style of life was investigated in 1012 nonsmoking predominantly male postinfarction volunteers in the San Francisco Bay area. A total of 862 were randomly allocated into an experimental section receiving a combination of Type A and cardiac counseling, or a control section receiving cardiac counseling alone. The remaining 150 formed a nonrandom but statistically equivalent comparison section. Assessments of cha…

  • The Physicianʼs Own Type A Behavior Pattern

    MEYER FRIEDMAN•ARTICLE•Family & Community Health•1980

  • Psychological Traits and Serum Lipids

David C Jenkins, Kripa Kripa et al.•ARTICLE•Psychosomatic Medicine•1969

Bivalves play key role in ecosystem stabilisation due to inherent filter feeding capability and clams are important components of soft bottom benthic communities. In the Tuticorin Bay, mass mortality of fishes and shellfishes was observed in Februay 2008. The probable cause for the large scale mortality has been indicated as increased levels of ammonia (Asha et al., 2009). A rapid survey was conducted in the bay to assess the impact on the bivalv…

  • Association of Specific Overt Behavior Pattern With Blood and Cardiovascular Findings

MEYER FRIEDMAN•ARTICLE•Journal of the American Medical…•1959

Three groups of men, selected solely according to the behavior pattern which they habitually manifested in their work, were compared with respect to their serum cholesterol levels, clotting times, presence of clinical coronary disease, and presence of arcus senilis. A group (A) of 83 men were chosen as manifesting an intense, sustained drive for achievement and as being continually involved in competition and deadlines, both at work and in their …

  • Studies Concerning the Etiology and Pathogenesis of Neurocirculatory Asthenia

    MEYER FRIEDMAN•ARTICLE•Psychosomatic Medicine•1947

An especially designed hyperventilation test preceded and followed by maximal breath-holding was described. By means of the breath-holding values thus obtained, a ratio designated as the hyperventilation index (H.I.) was obtained. The normal range of the H.I. was determined. When the normal individual and the patient suffering from an intrinsic pulmonary or cardiac disorder (but without neurocirculatory asthenia) were given the hyperventilation t…

  • Studies Concerning the Etiology and Pathogenesis of Neurocirculatory Asthenia

    MEYER FRIEDMAN•ARTICLE•Psychosomatic Medicine•1947

In the preceding paragraphs, evidence was obtained to indicate that a considerable number of N.C.A. patients were subject to episodic attacks of cardiovascular, respiratory, peripheral neurogenic dysfunction, and syncope, a phenomenon not stressed in the present literature. The recognition of the occurrence of such attacks in N.C.A. patients while at rest appeared to us to be of prime importance in an approach to an understanding of the pathogene…
