The Optimus International Consensus Guidance for Monitoring User-Reported Outcomes of Opioid Maintenance Treatment: A Delphi Study
Opioid use disorder is a major cause of drug-related harm and mortality. These can be reduced by expanded access to evidence-based and highly effective opioid agonist maintenance treatment or therapy (OMT). There is a lack of consensus on how to assess opioid use disorder treatment outcomes, and key health outcomes are often omitted. We report the results of a Delphi study to produce service user- and public health–centred international consensus…
Is living close to a drug treatment centre associated with stigma
Public stigma in the city is high and increases with proximity to a drug treatment centre, especially among groups that exhibit low levels of stigma at the city level. Identifying social groups showing high levels of "not in my back yard"-related stigma may help to redesign harm reduction interventions focusing on specific groups
What are the reasons for injected methadone use? A qualitative study of people who use drugs parenterally in Barcelona
Oral methadone maintenance is a widely adopted and effective treatment for heroin and other opioid dependencies. However, injectable methadone usage may pose greater risks than heroin itself. Despite decades of oral methadone treatment in Spain, there is limited understanding of the motivations for parenteral consumption. This study aimed to examine the reasons for methadone injection, delineate its specific advantages and disadvantages compared …
Opioid Agonist Maintenance Treatment Outcomes—The Optimus International Consensus Towards Evidence-Based and Patient-Centred Care, an Interim Report
Non-medical opioid use is a major public health concern causing high mortality. While opioid agonist maintenance treatment (OMT) is a key life-saving intervention, there is (a) no international consensus on opioid treatment outcomes and (b) few opioid treatment outcome studies include key (public) health outcomes, such as overdose or HIV/hepatitis C. We report the rationale and study protocol for, and preliminary results of, an ongoing internatio…

Negative socioeconomic changes and mental disorders: A longitudinal study

In this paper, we examined the association of negative socioeconomic changes, job loss and household income reductions with incident mental disorders. The moderating effect of gender was assessed. METHODS: Data come from the Netherlands Mental Health Survey and Incidence Study-2 (NEMESIS-2), a represen…
