  • Father-absent and father-present families of disturbed and nondisturbed adolescents

    Steven A Kagel, Raymond M White et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Orthopsychiatry•1978•References: 13

In a study of intact and of father-absent families, male adolescent disturbance in both groups was found to be related to less warm, supportive, and expressive intrafamilial relations; less of a family orientation toward personal growth; and less successful participation in extrafamilial involvement. Disturbance in father-absent boys was not related to negative father-typing by the mother or maternal restrictions, and the findings do not support …

  • Training Effects on Performance in Concept Identification Problems with Various Types of Solution Shifts

    Open Access•Raymond M White, William Wozniak•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1977

Extensive training with same-class concept identification problems was expected to produce behavior that is consistent with hypothesis sampling models that assume rather severe memory limitations for previously tested hypotheses. After solving 0, 4, or 8 unidimensional concept problems, 256 undergraduates were transferred to a problem in which solution was (a) present on a single dimension—a no-shift problem, (b) reversed within a dimension after…

  • Transfer from conceptual rule problems to a truth-table-sorting task

    Raymond M White, Douglas Lindquist•ARTICLE•Developmental Psychology•1974

  • Number of Pretraining Problems and Type of Instructions in Concept Identification

    Open Access•Raymond M White, Diana L Richards et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1971

To assess the effects of pretraining problems and type of instructions on concept identification 40 men and 40 women were given 0, 1, 2, or 3 pretraining problems prior to administration of an experimental concept problem. Instructions were either simply descriptive of the stimulus population and response requirements or elaborated such that S was told the rule defining problem solution and given a sample problem. Analyses showed a significant in…
