Obtaining Nationally Representative Samples of Local News Media Outlets
This article presents 1 approach to constructing a valid national sample of local news outlets. Using designated market areas that represent the dominant geographic area of influence for television stations, researchers can create a nationally representative sample of local media, including television and newspaper outlets. Homelessness: Residual, Institutional and Communal Solutions
Drawing upon demographic data and ethnographic interviews conducted by the authors, the article addresses the question, "Who are the homeless?" It identifies five kinds of homeless people and the sources of the homeless populations in the social structure. It then addresses residual and institutional policy solutions and draws on the efforts of the homeless themselves to advance a collective solution to their problems
Alienation and Social Work Practice
The idea of alienation and the development of alienation in society are examined. Concepts from alienation theory that illumine human functioning are presented along with ways they can be useful both in practice with individuals and in designing the administrative structure of social agencies
The Stresses of Unemployment
The magnitude of contemporary unemployment is outlined in this article, which defines job-related stress and discusses its various forms. Drawing on current research and theory, the author examines the physiological, psychological, interpersonal, and identity-connected aspects of this stress and presents considerations for practice and advocacy

While meditation derives from religious traditions, it is a behavior accessible to investigation. Recent physiological and behavioral studies are surveyed, and meditation behavior is described. Greater awareness of fellings, enhanced interpersonal perception, and increased present-centeredness are behaviors transferred from meditation, and facilitative both to the psychotherapist and to interpersonal functioning
