Prenatal psychotherapy and maternal transference to fetus

A postpartum telephone program of reassurance, information, and early intervention in a family practice
This paper presents a program developed in a family practice office to provide reassurance, guidance, and early detection and intervention for mothers and their new infants in the first month of the infant's life. Telephone calls from an office nurse at 2 weeks of age followed by a written questionnaire demonstrated a dichotomy between the mothers' expressions of their physical and emotional problems. Use of the Brazelton neonatal assessment scale to educate parents of high-risk infants
This article describes how the Brazelton Neonatal Assessment Scale might be used to assist parents in recognizing their infant's cues and capabilities. Infants to whom the scale as administered were high-risk babies requiring care in an intensivecare unit. The scale can be a useful component of an educational program for parents of newborns.
Innovation by a family medical practice to provide infant mental health services
The authors suggest that infant mental health principles have practical applicability to the daily lives of families with babies, and they offer one approach to making such application in a private practice. It is suggested that combining psychiatry, family medicine, psychology and nursing may make for a particularly well integrated team that has greater capability than each of its members has alone.
