Cassette Tapes and Soundscapes
As a performance poet, I like to combine spoken performance and visual storytelling and use an array of visual props that often recycle my personal past archive of artworks as an artist from the last twenty-five years into the present. Conversely, this Perspective article is a reflective account of how I make use of sound during my live solo performances by way of C90 cassette tape recordings I have made spanning the course of 30–40 years. Technoparticipation
In 1993, aged 15, I discovered Dymaxion Chronofile, architect Buckminster Fuller's very large scrapbook which he documented his life every 15 minutes from 1920 to 1983. Around the same time, my art teacher at secondary school suggested that I keep a scrapbook of images, This reflective account explores how I have worked with imagery of pages from that very large scrapbook I kept when I was a teenager in the 1990s for just over five years – my per…
Reading Like A Replicant
If androids dream of electric sheep, do replicants read analog novels? In the dystopian sci-fi world of Blade Runner 2049 (2017), literature plays a complex role. In particular, the film engages in a multi-leveled way with Vladimir Nabokov's novel Pale Fire (1962). A hardcover copy of the book appears in one scene, and it is quoted and covertly referenced in others. These appearances are like metafictive keys to a pattern of possible meanings, th…

Technoparticipation
Maggi Savin-Baden’s (2007) theories on the interplay between reflection and interruption consider moments of reflection as interruption as catalysts that provoke self-reflection and deep critical thinking. Such interruptions, disruptions and ‘disturbances’ (Vale 2017) have the power to produce new knowledge, new taxonomies and revised thinking. Aware of the increasing need for students to engage in self-reflection and critical thinking processes,…

Sight (Un)specific
This paper promotes debate into varying aspects of practice that was produced as part of You Don’t Need Eyes To See, You Need Vision , a recent event which presented new work by artists Lee Campbell, Adrian Lee and Carali McCall. Using performance practice-as-research, the artists interrogated the following question: How can acts exploring visual negation be used to generate public pedagogy and what may it bring to the experience of removal of si…
Technoparticipation
Arguing for the positive disruptive nature of interruption, this article concentrates on my current performative and pedagogic usage of Skype in order to promote the positive aspects of interruptive elements within performative pedagogy. Referring to technoparticipation, this article explains how teaching and learning activities that combine performance, participation, and technology within the learning environment can be punctuated with varying …
Beyond Pollock
