    Open Access•Wan-Yin Kuo, Chien‐Cheng Huang et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2025

In Taiwan, patients with HRI are more likely to males and between 20 and 44 years old. Male patients were younger and more likely to receive treatment in hospitals. • Arsenic in Drinking Water and Incidences of Leukemia and Lymphoma

Open Access•Ming-Hsien Lin, Ming‐Hsien Lin et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2022

Arsenic in drinking water has been recognized as carcinogenic to humans and can cause solid cancers of lung, urinary bladder, and skin. Positive associations have also been reported between arsenic ingestion and cancers of kidney, liver and prostate. Nevertheless, arsenic trioxide has been used successfully in the treatment of acute promyelocytic leukemia. Therefore, arsenic might play different roles in the carcinogenesis of solid cancers and he…

  • Health risks associated with group package tour

    Fan‐Yun Lan, Fan-Yun Lan et al.•ARTICLE•Asia Pacific Journal of Tourism…•2022•References: 4

Group package tour (GPT) is more popular among Asia than in other regions. To visit multiple attractions with a group of people within limited time at low costs, GPT is associated with some potential health hazards, including restricted meal time and long periods of time on ground transportation. Tour leaders are a good target for assessing the associated health outcomes, and we conducted a questionnaire survey on tour leaders in Taiwan. In addit…

  • Adding Pay-for-Performance Program to Routine Care Was Related to a Lower Risk of Depression Among Type 2 Diabetes Patients in Taiwan

Open Access•Wei-Cheng Lian, Wei‐Cheng Lian et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2021

Background: Patients with type 2 diabetes (T2DM) often experience depression during treatment, negatively influencing their treatment compliance and clinical outcomes. Recently, the pay-for-performance (P4P) program for chronic diseases, with high-cost and high-risk feature, such as T2DM, has been implemented and has been operational for several years. Nevertheless, its effect on the risk of developing depression among T2DM cases is unknown. This…

  • Language and Culture Backgrounds of Mothers and Child Development

Open Access•Yen-Cheng Tseng, Der-Chung Lai et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2021

Background: Transnational marriages are common as a result of globalization, and immigrant mothers face various degrees of differences in language and culture backgrounds. Mothers have great influences on the development of their children, but the effects of immigrant mothers' language and culture backgrounds on developmental delays (DD) are seldom studied. To evaluate the potential effects of immigrant mothers' language and culture backgrounds o…

  • Needs-based food and nutrient security indices to monitor and modify the food supply and intakes

    Open Access•Cheau-Jane Peng, Meei-Shyuan Lee et al.•ARTICLE•Food Policy•2015•Cited by: 1

  • Varicose veins in hairdressers and associated risk factors

    Open Access•Chao-Lin Chen, How‐Ran Guo et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2014

In hairdressers ≤ 45 years old, family history of VV is a major risk factor for developing lower limb VV, while in those who are > 45 years old, the effects of occupational risk factors are more prominent

  • Pulmonary function, respiratory symptoms, and dust exposures among workers engaged in early manufacturing processes of tea

    Open Access•Tzong-Shiun Shieh, Jui-Jung Chung et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2012

Tea workers engaged in early manufacturing processes of tea have higher prevalence of respiratory symptoms and pulmonary function impairment, which might be related to tea dust exposures, especially the coarse fraction

  • Age adjustment in ecological studies

    Open Access•How‐Ran Guo, How-Ran Guo•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2011

Using an empirical example, the current study confirmed the argument made by other researchers previously that whereas the three different methods of age adjustment may lead to different conclusions, only the third approach can obtain unbiased estimates of the risks. The third method can also generate estimates of the risk associated with each age group, but the other two are unable to evaluate the effects of age directly

  • Applying the revised Chinese Job Content Questionnaire to assess psychosocial work conditions among Taiwan's hospital workers

    Open Access•Tsair‐Wei Chien, Wen-Pin Lai et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2011

Background For hospital accreditation and health promotion reasons, we examined whether the 22-item Job Content Questionnaire (JCQ) could be applied to evaluate job strain of individual hospital employees and to determine the number of factors extracted from JCQ. Additionally, we developed an Excel module of self-evaluation diagnostic system for consultation with experts. Methods To develop an Excel-based self-evaluation diagnostic system for con…

  • Decrease in seroprevalence of Hepatitis A after the implementation of nationwide disposable tableware use in Taiwan

    Open Access•Shih-Bin Su, Ching-Yih Lin et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2010

Data from both the current and previous studies in different time periods supported the effectiveness of disposal tableware in preventing the transmission of hepatitis A

  • Presentations of patients of poisoning and predictors of poisoning-related fatality

    Open Access•Hsin-Ling Lee, Hung-Jung Lin et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2008

In addition to well-recognized risk factors for fatality in clinical settings, such as old age and abnormal vital signs, we found that suicidal intent and ingestion of paraquat were significant predictors of poisoning-related fatality. Identification of these predictors may help risk stratification and the development of preventive interventions

  • Using Rasch Analysis to Validate the Revised PSQI to Assess Sleep Disorders in Taiwan’s Hi-tech Workers

    Open Access•Tsair‐Wei Chien, Tsair-Wei Chien et al.•ARTICLE•Community Mental Health Journal•2008•References: 14

    Open Access•Wei-Sheng Chung, Wei‐Sheng Chung et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2007

Differences in care quality exist among different types of healthcare institutions and among individual physicians. The implementation of practice guidelines should contribute to an improvement in the care quality of the treatment and diagnosis of PTB

  • Tear secretion dysfunction among women workers engaged in light-on tests in the TFT-LCD industry

    Open Access•Shih‐Bin Su, Shih-Bin Su et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2006

The prevalence of tear secretion dysfunction in woman workers engaged in light-on tests is high and increases with a one-year duration of employment. The use of contact lens may further increase the risk
