  • The Research Domain Criteria (RDoC) domains positive valence system, negative valence system, cognitive systems, and social processes and their relationship with stress, anxiety, and depressive sympto…

Open Access•Veronika Esipova, Mira Tschorn et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2026

Our findings demonstrate a notable mental health burden in university students. We found associations between RDoC domains and all three mental health outcomes. Depressive symptoms were associated with all assessed RDoC domains. Anxiety and stress were linked to NVS- and CS-scores. Mental burden was therefore predominantly associated with heightened negative affect, anxiety, and subjectively perceived impaired cognitive performance. Depressive sy…

  • What is the impact of social support on self-rated health and depressive symptoms in university students

    Open Access•Mira Tschorn, Kristin Koller-Schlaud et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2025

With roughly a third of students reporting depressive symptoms at both study sites, our data supports the notion that mental health difficulties are a critically relevant topic in the university context. The association of social support with depressive symptoms and overall health in both samples with evidence for gender-specific effects underline the importance of considering social and gender aspects when understanding university student mental…

  • The acute effects of mental fatigue on balance performance in healthy young and older adults – A systematic review and meta-analysis

Open Access•Markus Brahms, Stephan Heinzel et al.•ARTICLE•Acta Psychologica•2022

  • Recreational exercise is associated with lower prevalence of depression and anxiety and better quality of life in German people living with HIV

Open Access•Camilo Germán Alberto Pérez Chaparro, Maria Kangas et al.•ARTICLE•AIDS Care•2022

Sedentarism is a risk factor for depression and anxiety. People living with the human immunodeficiency virus (PLWH) have a higher prevalence of anxiety and depression compared to HIV-negative individuals. This cross-sectional study (n = 450, median age 44 (19–75), 7.3% females) evaluates the prevalence rates and prevalence ratio (PR) of anxiety and/or depression in PLWH associated with recreational exercise. A decreased likelihood of having anxie…

  • Exercise, Comorbidities, and Health-Related Quality of Life in People Living with HIV

    Open Access•Philipp Zech, Felipe Barreto-Schuch et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2020

    (1) Background : People with HIV (PWH) may perform more than one type of exercise cumulatively. The objective of this study is to investigate recreational exercise and its association with health-related quality of life (HRQOL) and comorbidities in relation to potential covariates. (2) Methods: The HIBES study (HIV-Begleiterkrankungen-Sport) is a cross-sectional study for people with HIV. The differences between non-exercisers versus exercisers (…

  • Regional Associations Between Medicare Advantage Penetration and Administrative Claims-based Measures of Hospital Outcomes

    Vivek Kulkarni, Vivek T Kulkarni et al.•ARTICLE•Medical Care•2012•References: 8

BACKGROUND: Risk-standardized measures of hospital outcomes reported by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services include Medicare fee-for-service (FFS) patients and exclude Medicare Advantage (MA) patients due to data availability. MA penetration varies greatly nationwide and seems to be associated with increased FFS population risk. Whether variation in MA penetration affects the performance on the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Service…
