  • Late Quaternary Climate Variability and Change from Aotearoa New Zealand Speleothems: Progress in Age Modelling, Oxygen Isotope Master Record Construction and Proxy-Model Comparisons

    Open Access•A M Lorrey, Peter W Williams et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary•2020

We re-evaluated speleothem isotope series from Aotearoa New Zealand that were recently contributed to the Speleothem Isotopes Synthesis and AnaLysis (SISAL) database. COnstructing Proxy Records from Age Models (COPRA) software was used to produce Bayesian age models for those speleothems. The new age modelling helped us examine Late Quaternary temporal coverage for the national speleothem network, and also supported our exploration of three diffe…

  • Karst Hydrogeology and Geomorphology

Dabney Ford, Derek Ford et al.•BOOK•Karst Hydrogeology and…•2007

Originally published in 1989, Karst Geomorphology and Hydrology became the leading textbook on karst studies. This new textbook has been substantially revised and updated. The first half of the book is a systematic presentation of the dissolution kinetics, chemical equilibria and physical flow laws relating to karst environments. It includes details of the many environmental factors that complicate their chemical evolution, with a critique of mea…

  • Limestone Pavements with Special Reference to Western Ireland

    Peter W Williams, Paul W Williams•ARTICLE•Transactions of the Institute of…•1966•Cited by: 4

A visit to the limestone outcrops of north Clare and south Galway in Ireland or to the Ingleborough district of Yorkshire is adequate to demonstrate the aptness of the term limestone pavement (Plate I). Yet confusion over terminology has occurred, because pavements have also been called 'helks',2 'clints and grykes'3 and 'clints or grikes'.4 Clints and grikes are separate but integral parts of a pavement; thus they should be used neither independ…
