  • On the Belatedness of Psychoanalytic Clinical Writing

    Sara R Collins, Sara Collins•ARTICLE•The Psychoanalytic Quarterly•2024•References: 15

The belatedness of analytic writing and its effects on analytic processes are explored through the concepts of nachträglichkeit and thirdness. The temporal gap between being with and writing about functions as a meaningful pause filled with opportunities for investigating unconscious pathways to the analyst’s countertransference. The significance of analytic narration in affecting specific psychoanalytic developments is explored. The theoretical …

  • Dry, leeward regions support Colonization Period sites: Stratigraphy, dating, and geomorphological setting of one of the earliest habitations in the Hawaiian Islands

Marshall Weisler, Quan Hua et al.•ARTICLE•The Journal of Island and Coastal…•2023•References: 19

The earliest archaeological sites anchor discussions of the timing, speed, and direction of colonization of continents, single archipelagos, and individual islands, and new discoveries of the oldest sites often cause reevaluations of settlement models and culture-histories at various scales. Consequently, the oldest sites have continued to garner great interest amongst archaeologists worldwide. Here we report a suite of 21 AMS radiocarbon age det…

  • Psychic time as occasion for enactment

    Sara R Collins, Sara Collins•ARTICLE•The International Journal of…•2020•Cited by: 1•References: 18

The author focuses on enactments in the temporality of the analytic process, taking place around analytic breaks. Being part of the rhythm of psychoanalysis, breaks can be experienced as disruptions, with increased anxiety. Threats to the integrity of the frame provide points of vulnerability and challenge to containment that may result in enactment. This is especially so when related to the patient's unique psychic time, touching on depth of dis…

  • Psychoanalytic training in the Eitingon model and its controversies: A way forward

D Tuckett, Jacqueline Amati Mehler et al.•ARTICLE•The International Journal of…•2020•Cited by: 3•References: 16

Psychoanalytic training has been an object of controversy for many years. Arguments have been intense about the details, sometimes called "requirements", and particularly over whether or not training institutes should have routine external validation. We describe these arguments and present preliminary conclusions about the core challenges psychoanalytic trainings face using a unique set of detailed observations collected during structured "conve…

  • A New Major Adze Quarry from Nānākuli, O‘ahu: Implications for Interaction Studies in Hawai‘i

Open Access•Marshall Weisler, Sara Collins et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Pacific Archaeology•2013

A major new basalt adze quarry at Nānākuli Valley, Hawaiian Islands is described which now ranks as one of the two largest on O‘ahu and aside from the Mauna Kea adze quarry complex on Hawai‘i island and the Haleakalā source on Maui, is one of the major quarries in the archipelago. We defined the approximate limits of the quarry complex, located the in situ geological source of the fine-grained basalt used for adze manufacture, report the petrogra…

  • On authenticity: The question of truth in construction and autobiography

    Open Access•Sara R Collins, Sara Collins•ARTICLE•The International Journal of…•2011•Cited by: 4•References: 12

Freud was occupied with the question of truth and its verification throughout his work. He looked to archaeology for an evidence model to support his ideas on reconstruction. He also referred to literature regarding truth in reconstruction, where he saw shifts between historical fact and invention, and detected such swings in his own case histories. In his late work Freud pondered over the impossibility of truth in reconstruction by juxtaposing t…

Five consecutive patients referred to a psychosexual clinic are described to illustrate the diversity of aetiology and pathology, and the need for a range of treatment techniques.
