  • Primary care placements in the post-Covid era

Open Access•Richard Darnton, Maaz Khan et al.•ARTICLE•Medical Teacher•2022

INTRODUCTION: In March 2020, UK primary care changed dramatically due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It now has a much greater reliance on triaging, e-consultations, remote consultations, online meetings and less home visits. Re-evaluating the nature and value of learning medicine in primary care has therefore become a priority. METHOD: 70 final-year medical students placed in 38 GP practices (primary care centres) across the East of England undertook…

  • Medical students consulting from home

Open Access•Richard Darnton, TONY LOPEZ et al.•ARTICLE•Medical Teacher•2021

INTRODUCTION: Lockdowns during the COVID-19 pandemic had a disruptive effect on medical education when they prevented medical students accessing real patients. To address this, we piloted 35 medical students at home consulting remotely with patients. METHOD: We evaluated the intervention using qualitative analysis of post-experience interviews with a sample of 13 students and 10 clinical supervisors. RESULTS: The experience was perceived by all t…

  • The geography of learning

Mark Jenkins, Sean Tallman et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Economic Geography•2015•References: 16

This article considers the mechanisms that permit and enhance the movement of highly tacit component (technical) knowledge and geographically sticky architectural knowledge across borders and between clusters and firms. We address a number of critical research questions that relate to intra- and inter-locational knowledge transfer. We use a theory-driven, longitudinal, single case study to develop a conceptual framework to examine and describe ho…

  • Validation of a web-based dietary questionnaire designed for the Dash (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension) diet

Open Access•Caroline M Apovian, Megan Cooper Murphy et al.•ARTICLE•Public Health Nutrition•2010

Objective With the upsurge in online dietary modification programmes, online dietary assessment tools are needed to capture food intake. Although the DASH (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension) diet is recommended by the US Department of Agriculture, there are no online instruments that capture DASH food servings. Our objective was to assess the validity of a new, short, online dietary questionnaire developed to capture intake of DASH food ser…

  • Knowledge, Clusters, and Competitive Advantage

Sean Tallman, Stephen Tallman et al.•ARTICLE•Academy of Management Review•2004

Researchers in international strategy are increasingly investigating the role of regional clusters as features of international industry, most concerned with the competitive role of clusters and the competitive interactions among cluster firms. We look instead at knowledge sharing between firms through the medium of untraded interdependencies—knowledge exchanged informally and without explicit compensation. We specifically address knowledge devel…
