Who’s talking to whom in agribusiness? And should anyone listen? The network of intellectual influence in agribusiness research
Purpose To develop an understanding of communication among agribusiness journals and to examine patterns of citations that allow the measurement and description of the structure of communication flows among those journals in a network. Design/methodology/approach The data for this study were gathered from the Journal Citation Reports (JCR) published by Thomson Scientific (Philadelphia). The authors conducted a bibliometric analysis, based on an i…

An Examination of Characteristics of Two Statistics of Agreement for Genuinely Dichotomous Data
This paper presents an empirical analysis of similarities and differences among two statistics, G and Phi, which treat genuinely dichotomous data. These results can aid researchers in selecting between these two statistics and in evaluating results from the use of one versus the other
A Computer Program to Determine Relations Among Genuine Dichotomies
The Phi and G statistics for dichotomus variables are discussed and a Fortran program to compute them is described. Input is to be in card form, output may be printed, punched, or placed on magnetic tape. The punch or tape output is designed to be used as input for the BMD X72 factor analysis program
The Need-hierarchy and Theories of Authority
The need-heirarchy concept and three theories of authority (Formal, Situationist, and Acceptance) are reviewed, and an integrated framework for discussing their interrelationships and importance to organization theory and human relations is developed. The formal theory may be useful in discussions of profit-seeking, formal organizations, but in explaining individual behavior it uses only the lower order needs and expressive behavior. The situatio…
