Barriers to Purchasing Foods for a High-Quality, Healthy Diet in a Low-Income African American Community
The goal of this project was to assess the cost of purchasing 1-month of nutritionally adequate, familiar, healthy food plans for African American seniors and families in Roxbury, Massachusetts. Model 7-day food plans were developed and tested using focus groups. The food plans were translated into shopping lists and prices were collected at 2 local grocery stores. Hormone replacement therapy, cancer, controversies, and women’s health
Routine acceptance of use of hormone replacement therapy (HRT) was shattered in 2002 when results of the largest HRT randomised clinical trial, the women’s health initiative, indicated that long term use of oestrogen plus progestin HRT not only was associated with increased risk of cancer but, contrary to expectations, did not decrease, and may have increased, risk of cardiovascular disease. Few data are available regarding the performance of the Medical Outcomes Study (MOS) Short-Form 36-Item Health Survey (SF-36) in black patients. In this article, the reliability and validity of the MOS SF-36 is compared in a population of black patients and white patients with acute chest pain.
