  • Examining Patients’ Capacity to Use Patient Portals

Ann Scheck Mcalearney, Cynthia J Sieck et al.•ARTICLE•Medical Care•2021•References: 33

BACKGROUND: The increase in telehealth in response to the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic highlights the need to understand patients' capacity to utilize this care modality. Patient portals are a tool whose use requires similar resources and skills as those required for telehealth. • Increasing Hand Washing Compliance With a Simple Visual Cue

Eric W Ford, Brian T Boyer et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Public Health•2014•References: 45

We tested the efficacy of a simple, visual cue to increase hand washing with soap and water. Automated towel dispensers in 8 public bathrooms were set to present a towel either with or without activation by users. We set the 2 modes to operate alternately for 10 weeks. Wireless sensors were used to record entry into bathrooms. Towel and soap consumption rates were checked weekly. There were 97 351 hand-washing opportunities across all restrooms. …

  • The Impact of Accelerating Electronic Prescribing on Hospitals' Productivity Levels

Open Access•Eric W Ford, Timothy R Huerta et al.•ARTICLE•INQUIRY The Journal of Health…•2011

This paper examines how different strategies for implementing computerized prescriber order entry (CPOE) impact hospitals' productivity. We used the American Hospital Association's Annual Survey to construct hospital-level measures for 1,812 facilities and analyzed the productivity indices against CPOE use rates. The relationship between CPOE use rates and indices for "technical efficiency change" and "total factor productivity" was significant. …

  • Evaluating the Science of Discovery in Complex Health Systems

    Open Access•Cameron D Norman, Allan Best et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Evaluation•2010•Cited by: 1•References: 4

Complex health problems such as chronic disease or pandemics require knowledge that transcends disciplinary boundaries to generate solutions. Such transdisciplinary discovery requires researchers to work and collaborate across boundaries, combining elements of basic and applied science. At the same time, calls for more interdisciplinary health science acknowledge that there are few metrics to evaluate the products associated with these new ways o…
