Purged from the Rolls
Purpose: To describe the impact of disenrollment from Medicaid because of failure to pay premiums as part of Iowa's Medicaid program's personal responsibility component. Methods: We conducted a mixed method study consisting of in-depth interviews with disenrolled members in 2016 and 2017 (n=72) and a survey of disenrolled members in 2017 (n=225). Results: Many disenrollees did not know why they were disenrolled, were unaware of the personal respo…
Completion of Requirements in Iowa’s Medicaid Expansion Premium Disincentive Program, 2014–2015
Objectives. To evaluate rates of member compliance with Iowa’s Medicaid expansion premium disincentive program. Methods. We used 2014 to 2015 Iowa Medicaid data to construct rolling 12-month cohorts of Wellness Plan and Marketplace Choice members (Iowa’s 2 Medicaid expansion waiver programs for individuals ≤ 100% and 101%–138% of the federal poverty level, respectively), calculated completion rates for required activities (i.e., wellness examinat…
Comparing the Visual Analogue Scale and the Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory for Measuring Health-Related Quality of Life in Children with Oral Clefts
Our study finds the VAS to perform relatively well in measuring overall HRQoL among children with oral clefts. The VAS may be useful as a screening tool to identify children with oral clefts at risk of low HRQoL for referral into more comprehensive evaluations and for measuring average HRQoL across a sample of children
The willingness of US pediatric dentists to use atraumatic restorative treatment ( ART ) with their patients
Although insurance coverage was the least important among the factors, being without insurance, being very young, and being uncooperative was the scenario where pediatric dentists most favored ART when making trade offs between different factors using the conjoint design
Encouraging early preventive dental visits for preschool‐aged children enrolled in Medicaid
Findings were consistent with EPPM, which suggests this model is a potential tool for understanding parents' decisions about seeking preventive dental care for their young children. Future research should utilize quantitative methods to test this model
Racial and Ethnic Disparities in Utilization of Dental Services Among Children in Iowa
Objectives. We sought to understand the role of Latino acculturation in dental care utilization in Iowa children. Methods. We used logistic regression to evaluate factors associated with having a previous-year dental check-up with 2005 Iowa Child and Family Household Health Survey data. We constructed models to examine the association with race/ethnicity and used chosen interview language to measure Latino acculturation. Results. After we control…
Determining Dental Utilization Rates for Children
Objective: Accessing dental care is a significant problem for children in Medic‐aid and SCHIP Evaluating the extent of the access problem is affected by the differential dental utilization rates as calculated by unique approaches used by national organizations. The problem is related to the intermittent enrollment in Medicaid and SCHIP for many children during the year. The objective of this study is to evaluate the effect of four different appro…
