  • An Integrated Theatre Production for School Nutrition Promotion Program

Open Access•Robert A Baruch Bush, Sandra Capra et al.•ARTICLE•Children•2018

In the context of stubbornly high childhood obesity rates, health promotion activities in schools provide a potential avenue to improve children's nutritional behaviours. Theatre production has a rich history as a health behaviour promotion strategy but lacks sound, outcome-based evaluation. This study evaluated the effect of an integrated, two-part, place-based theatre performance program with 212 students in five schools in a regional urban and…

  • Health literacy among consumers in community pharmacy

    Open Access•Therese Kairuz, Therese E Kairuz et al.•ARTICLE•Health Expectations•2015

BACKGROUND: Low health literacy has important consequences for health status, medication adherence and use of health services. There is little insight from the perspective of pharmacy staff into how they identify the information needs of consumers and particularly the signals and risk factors of limited health literacy that they encounter in their day-to-day communication with consumers. OBJECTIVE: To investigate factors impacting on consumer hea…

  • How Is Medication Prescribing Ceased

Remo Ostini, Claire Jackson et al.•ARTICLE•Medical Care•2011•References: 28

BACKGROUND: Medication prescribing is a complex process where the focus tends to be on starting new medication, changing a drug regimen, and continuing a drug regimen. On occasion, a prudent approach to prescribing may necessitate ending an ongoing course of medication, either because it should not have been started in the first place; because its continued use would cause harm; or because the medication is no longer effective. OBJECTIVE: To iden…

Analysis confirmed only some of the predicted …

  • Police opinions of a proposal for controlled availability of heroin in Australia

    Adele Stevens, Remo Ostini et al.•ARTICLE•Policing & Society•1995•References: 1

Police attitudes have rarely been studied as part of law‐ or policy‐making, particularly in drug policy. We examined why the majority of a sample of Canberra‐based police were opposed to a proposal for a trial of controlled availability of heroin. Many police had negative attitudes towards heroin users with a sense that a trial was ‘giving in’ to them and that funds should be spent on more ‘deserving’ groups. Policing against illegal drugs was no…

  • Further Evaluation of Merz's Psychological Reactance Scale

    Open Access•Sung-Mook Hong, Remo Ostini•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1989

Merz's Psychological Reactance Scale was evaluated on the basis of individual item analysis, factorial validity and reliability using responses of 379 Australian tertiary students. Several questionnaire items showed difficulties in readability, ambiguity and discriminatory power, possibly due to the effects of translation. The scale was factorially unstable, and the reliabilities of the present English version were .80 (α) and .77 (split-half) wh…
