  • Benefit Design and Access to Dental Care Among Seniors With Medicare Advantage Dental Benefits

Open Access•Kamyar Nasseh, Astha Singhal et al.•ARTICLE•JAMA Health Forum•2025

This study found that restrictive characteristics of Medicare Advantage dental plans are associated with greater unmet dental need and financial barriers to care. Results of this study suggest that increasing annual plan maximums or eliminating them entirely from benefit plans could decrease unmet dental need and increase dental care utilization

  • Geographic access to dental care varies in Missouri and Wisconsin

Open Access•Kamyar Nasseh, Yochai Eisenberg et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Public Health Dentistry•2017

The Health Resources and Services Administration, which designates dental health professional shortage areas, relies on administrative boundaries to calculate population to dental provider ratios. Open Access•Kamyar Nasseh, Miroslav Vujičić et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Public Health Dentistry•2017

Objectives. We estimated short-term health care cost savings that would result from oral health professionals performing chronic disease screenings. Methods. We used population data, estimates of chronic disease prevalence, and rates of medication adherence from the literature to estimate cost savings that would result from screening individuals aged 40 years and older who have seen a dentist but not a physician in the last 12 months. We estimate…

  • The Effect of the Affordable Care Act’s Expanded Coverage Policy on Access to Dental Care

Miroslav Vujičić, Marko Vujicic et al.•ARTICLE•Medical Care•2014•References: 6

BACKGROUND: The Affordable Care Act included a dependent coverage policy that extends parents' or guardians' health insurance to adults aged 19-25. This policy does not apply directly to private dental benefits. However, for various reasons it could still have an indirect "spillover" effect if employers voluntarily expand dental coverage in conjunction with medical coverage. OBJECTIVE: To assess the effect of the Affordable Care Act's dependent c…
