  • Variability in Transitional Care Outcomes Across Hospitals Discharging Veterans to Skilled Nursing Facilities

    Robert E Burke, Robert Burke et al.•ARTICLE•Medical Care•2020•References: 35

BACKGROUND: The period after transition from hospital to skilled nursing facility (SNF) is high-risk, but variability in outcomes related to transitions across hospitals is not well-known. OBJECTIVES: Evaluate variability in transitional care outcomes across Veterans Health Administration (VHA) and non-VHA hospitals for Veterans, and identify characteristics of high-performing and low-performing hospitals. RESEARCH DESIGN: Retrospective observati…

  • Predictors of Contraceptive Discontinuation in a Sexually Transmitted Disease Clinic Population

Karen C Ramstrom, Anna E Barón et al.•ARTICLE•Perspectives on Sexual and…•2002•Cited by: 1

In this study population of STD clinic users, method-use problems appear to be a more fundamental issue for contraceptive compliance than the pastor current experience of side effects. The unexpected association between method-use problems and the risk of discontinuation needs to be further delineated so that effective interventions addressing these problems can be developed and implemented

  • Cognitive Functioning and Impairment Among Rural Elderly Hispanics and Non-Hispanic Whites as Assessed by the Mini-Mental State Examination

Christine L Mulgrew, Naomi Morgenstern et al.•ARTICLE•The Journals of Gerontology…•1999•Cited by: 9•References: 2

We conducted a cross-sectional study to determine the distribution of cognitive functioning as measured by the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) among a sample of Hispanic and non-Hispanic White (NHW) residents from two counties in rural, southern Colorado. Residents aged 60 years and older (N = 1,360) were administered the full MMSE, a sociodemographic and medical interview. Protocols were developed to administer the MMSE equitably in both et…

  • Tracking community sentinel events

Terry L Andres, Anna E Barón et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Public Health•1996•Cited by: 1•References: 15

OBJECTIVES: The incidence of related sentinel events--breast cancer mortality and neighborhood-specific morbidity for advanced stage at diagnosis--were calculated for women likely to use a community health center in Denver, Colo. METHODS: For the center's service area, neighborhoods (n = 37) were defined by program use. Mortality rates and proportional hazards regression models were estimated for 4189 breast cancer cases recorded between 1979 and…
