  • Socioeconomic Status, Access to Health Care, and Outcomes After Acute Myocardial Infarction in Canada's Universal Health Care System

    Louise Pilote, Jack V Tu et al.•ARTICLE•Medical Care•2007•References: 23

BACKGROUND: There is a debate as to whether universal drug coverage confers similar access to care at all socioeconomic status (SES) levels. Experiences in Canada may bring light to questions raised regarding access. OBJECTIVE: To assess associations between SES and access to cardiac care and outcomes in Canada's universal health care system. DESIGN, SETTING, AND PATIENTS: All patients admitted to acute care hospitals in Quebec (QC), Ontario (ON)…

  • A cross-sectional study of the prevalence of intensity of infection with Schistosoma japonicumin 50 irrigated and rain-fed villages in Samar Province, the Philippines

Open Access•Mushfiqur R Tarafder, Ernesto Balolong et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2006

We found very important village-to-village variation in prevalence of infection intensity. This variation is probably due to village-level variables other than that explained by a crude classification of villages into the irrigated and non-irrigated categories. We are planning to capture this spatial heterogeneity by updating our initial transmission dynamics model with the data reported here combined with 1-year post-treatment follow-up of study…
