  • Prioritizing Evidence-based Interventions for Dissemination and Implementation Investments

    Jill S Huppert, Alaina K Fournier et al.•ARTICLE•Medical Care•2019•References: 13

BACKGROUND: The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) is mandated to implement patient-centered outcomes research (PCOR) to promote safer, higher quality care. With this goal, we developed a process to identify which evidence-based PCOR interventions merit investment in implementation. We present our process and experience to date. MATERIALS AND METHODS: AHRQ developed and applied a systematic, transparent, and stakeholder-driven proc…

  • Factors Associated with Having Oral Cancer Examinations Among US Adults 40 Years of Age or Older

Open Access•Alice M Horowitz, Parivash Nourjah et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Public Health Dentistry•1996

  • Factors Associated with the Use of Fluoride Supplements and Fluoride Dentifrice by Infants and Toddlers

Open Access•Parivash Nourjah, Alice M Horowitz et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Public Health Dentistry•1994

Dental fluorosis may be associated with the inappropriate use of fluoride dentifrices and/or dietary fluoride supplements by young children, especially for those who consume optimally fluoridated water. Studies to date have used retrospective designs that rely on anamnestic responses of adults to determine fluoride exposures in their children. The 1986 National Health Interview Survey (NHIS) collected information on current use of fluoride-contai…

  • Blood alcohol tests, prevalence of involvement, and outcomes following brain injury

    J F Kraus, Hal Morgenstern et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Public Health•1989•References: 25

We collected data on all residents of San Diego County, California who were hospitalized for or died from a brain injury in 1981. The objectives were to assess the frequency of blood alcohol concentration (BAC) testing and the associations of BAC prevalence with the external cause of the brain injury and case outcome. We found that high BAC levels were most frequent among brain-injured subjects between the ages of 25 and 44 and among those subjec…

  • The impact of neuroleptic medication on tardive dyskinesia

Hal Morgenstern, William M Glazer et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Public Health•1987•References: 42

To quantify the impact of chronic exposure to neuroleptic medication on the occurrence of tardive dyskinesia (TD), we conducted a meta-analysis of data collected from 21 studies published between 1966 and 1985. The observed prevalence of dyskinesia was greater among exposed subjects in all 21 studies; we estimate that, on the average, the occurrence rate was 2.9 times greater in exposed persons than would be expected if they had been unexposed. W…
