Accounting for Variation in Technical Quality and Patient Satisfaction
BACKGROUND: The delivery of healthcare depends on individual providers, coordination within teams, and the structure of the work setting. We analyzed the amount of variation in technical quality and patient satisfaction accounted for at the patient, provider, team, and medical center level. METHODS: Data abstracted from Veterans Health Administration patient medical records for 2007 were used to calculate measures of technical quality based on ad…
A Partial Evaluation of Torrance's Tests of Creativity
Two key assumptions Torrance (1962, 1966) makes regarding his five tests of creativity (i.e., Ask and Guess, Product Improvement, Unusual Uses, Unusual Questions and Just Suppose) is that each test assesses more than one of the three basic dimensions of creativity (i.e., Fluency, Flexibility and Originality) and that when one of the dimensions is measured by more than one test the multiple scores may be combined to represent that dimension. The f…
Teachers’ Beliefs, Classroom Atmosphere and Student Behavior
ness of teachers' belief systems affect their overt resourcefulness, dictatorialness and punitiveness in the classroom. In addition, the results show that the classroom behavior of the teacher and the behavior of the students are significantly related. Clearly, this relationship does not tell us the nature of the causality. Theoretically, the teacher's behavior could determine the childrens' behavior, the reverse could be true, both could be dete…
Some Norms for the Dogmatism Scale
Norms for the Dogmatism scale are reported for 37 samples of various populations. Women scored consistently lower than men, and the difference seems due to a few items. Wide variations in the means reported indicate that the Dogmatism scale is probably highly sensitive to subcultural differences, in turn indicating that local norms for large samples should be obtained before using the Dogmatism scale as an independent variable
Effects of personality and own stand on judgment and production of statements about a central issue
Status in Experimentally Produced Groups
In a study of intra-and intergroup relations utilizing a combination of observational and laboratory methods, two small groups were experimentally produced as a consequence of interaction among individuals. This was done under controlled conditions embodying goals that had a common appeal and that called for interdependent activities for their attainment. It is demonstrated that, when group members face an unstructured task in which they are suff…
